GOP Senator: It's Time For Lott To Go
CBS News ^ | December 18, 2002 | Bob Fuss

By the days end, at least 10 Senate Republicans contacted by CBS News have endorsed Lott's leadership, a small boost for the embattled Senator, but far short of the 26 he will need from the Senate GOP Caucus to keep his job reports CBS News Washington Correspondant Bob Fuss.

Those standing with Lott include:

Mike Dewine-Ohio

Orrin Hatch-Utah

Arlen Specter-Pennslyvania

Lott still believes a majority of the 51 Senate Republicans support him.

'I'm telling you this morning, I am hanging in there,' he told the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.

"Since when did Senate leadership become a popularity contest?"

Since when did Lott become a 'leader'?

Here is the proper solution. Chester moves to that High Back Bench (next to Robert 'KKK' Byrd) and serves on as 'Grand Man' of the Senate -- Bobbie Byrdie being the 'Grand Dragon' therein.

Trent does the right thing and life goes on ... plus we have a true conservative SMJ, to boot with the Demos recoiling to their usual serpentine posture.

As far as I am concerned, Nickels playing in an all male gold club streghtens my vote for him!

I like Don. As for 'playing gold clubs', I immediately think of the Wellesley varsity golf team which that is even more 'sexist' than Augusta (and where is Howell Raines' 'high dudgeon' on that matter of high moral ethos ?).

Okay, before Lott goes, the House passes a law stating that any mid-term defectors will lose their position, pension and perks, you know, just to level the playing field. Then watch the Senators' reactions...

See how America is boxed in politically when we have no choices but chocolate or vanilla. So what ya gonna do if Lott stays in & hands the commies everything that they want? And the non leaders in both of these parties can not state their true feelings due to retribution. ( I thought that the government worked for the people rather than the opposite)

Trent Lott has shown a complete lack of anything resembling a backbone. I would have apologized twice, then told them all to kiss my a__. We don't need a senate majority leader who's completely gutless, and has already displayed a remarkable lack of leadership. He needs to go.

If your decision to leave the party is based upon the exit of a stupid and ineffectual leader, your principles were not very strong to begin with.

If you succumb to thought crimes, you stay here kiddo. Then you don't need to be brainwashed.

What Lott did was not wrong. But his handling of it has been completely idiotic. He must go.

If you don't see the power play here, then Lott's not the idiotic one.

I see a power play in several ways, but still, his lack of brain functioning necessitates his removal.

As a member of the PC police, I would just like to say that your boy did an outstanding job on the BET? Outstanding I say, simply outstanding.

"If you succumb to thought crimes, you stay here kiddo. Then you don't need to be brainwashed."

Yes, that is the original argument in favor of supporting Trent Lott in light of the obvious smear job.

Unfortunately, while the trumped up charge of "racism" was festering, Lott took it upon himself to kneel before the BET gods, and promise to do their bidding as his penance. There -- THAT solved the problem, didn't it??

Clearly, the man can no longer be entrusted to support his conservative constituency and the GOP now that is feels he is beholden to the party and agenda of Maxine Waters.

I'm halfway expecting a Lott-Selma march during MLK b-day next month. Let's watch and see.
