Hil asks for probe of La. runoff
New York Daily News ^ | 12/24/02 | Kenneth R. Bazinet

WASHINGTON - Hillary Clinton yesterday challenged critics who accused her of race-baiting to investigate alleged attempts to suppress the black vote in the South.

Clinton (D-N.Y.) fired off a letter to incoming Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), calling on him to "conduct hearings and an investigation of the recent incidents of voter suppression and intimidation."

One case cited by Clinton involved the Senate runoff election earlier this month in Louisiana, in which Sen. Mary Landreau (D-La.) was reelected.

A flyer distributed in black neighborhoods read: "Bad Weather? No problem! If the weather is uncomfortable on election day , remember you can wait and cast your ballot on Tuesday, December 10th."

There was no voting in Louisiana on Dec. 10, only Dec. 7.

"Such conduct is reprehensible and serves only to undermine our democracy," she said.

Democrats say they have dozens of other examples. Clinton infuriated Hatch on Friday when she said the selection of Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) to replace Trent Lott (R-Miss.) as Senate majority leader will not cleanse Republicans of their "constant exploitation of race."

Hatch, whose office did not comment yesterday, had accused Clinton on Sunday of race-baiting.

"I think every Republican is working hard to try to be good to minorities and do what's right," Hatch told ABC's "This Week." "But we can't support some of the far-left, extreme approaches toward race."

I say great. Investigate the heck out of it. And while they're at it, make sure there was only one vote per tomb. No more than one vote per man, dead or alive. Thems the rules.

Hitlary wants to keep this issue alive. After all, she is an expert on divide and conquer tactics. What a wicked woman.

Once again the Dems say that minorities are stupid. They're too stupid to know what day election day is. They're too stupid or incompetent to have I.D. Asking them to show I.D. to vote is racist, you know. Minorities are too stupid to vote in FLorida (2000).

Oh, well, someday they'll be smart enough to see the patronizing of liberals.

I will agree to Hillary's demand for a probe on one condition: that she and the Democrats agree to a probe into Democratic vote fraud in the same election and in other instances as well around the country.

Yup, concerning the monolithic black vote, it's exactly for that reason the dem's have everything to fear. Whereas the gop has hardly any of it, so we don't have to worry about losing any of it, the only place we can go is up. And dem's know this--nothing is forever, and although it'll probably be a long while when it happens, there's no way they can hold on to 90%+ of the black vote forever.

John Thune. Fat chance of the gop investigating there. We knew it stunk there even before election day, but didn't do anything about it. After the Lott mess, that's it. After all, not only are we racists toward blacks, but racists towards American-Indians as well now < /sarcasm>.

I irony is just too much; Hillary complaining about the "constant exploitation of race." But I think she should keep it up. Have a huge investigation. Advertise it all over the place. The Dumbocrat just can't see to figure out this stuff only help conservatives.

The DemocRATS have no fear of losing the black vote to the Republicans, but, they could possibly lose a number of votes to a black DemocRAT, say like Al Sharpton.

This whole race thing could be a ploy by hillary! and her cohorts to stem a Sharpton tide.

Donna Brazile is already point-man on this.

But will the votes Sharpton gets in the primaries effect the outcome? I doubt it.

Now, if Sharpton runs as an Independent... Hoooo Doggies!

The DNC would look like a Chinese fire-drill!

If the voters fall for something this stupid, too bad. I don't believe any race has a monopoly on stupidity ;-)
