Wow, I actually got here early!

Rintense, great first pictures. In picture #2, the President looks pretty tired and pretty ticked - at Barney maybe?

Good evening, rintense!

Did you have a great Christmas?

These are beautiful pictures as usual. but since when did President and Mrs. Bush take bad pictures?

Today i treated myself for my birthday by going and seeing the second half of the Lord of the Rings triology. It was fantastic!

Hpoe I'm first today. LOL!!

My thoughts exactly, McG.

It's just difficult to imagine the pressure on this good fella. My heart goes out to this family.

I wasn't expecting a dose tonight as I thought there would probably be no pictures. Thanks for posting RWP. Hope everyone had a great day yesterday. I tried ohioWfan's Pepparkakor Swedish cookie recipe and they are wonderful. A new family favorite.

He probably just read that stupid Woodward book, which I just finished (received it as a Christmas present). It is NOT recommended by me, as Woodward leaves out important things, emphasizes the disagreements in the cabinet, and makes it seem like no one really knew what they were doing and that the entire Afghan campaign was a huge stroke of luck. Rumsfeld is portrayed as deceptive to the press, Powell as always in trouble with the President, Cheney as being too apt to go to war, Rice as indecisive, and Rove only appears for that stupid Nazi comment.

The President comes through as pulling all the pieces together, but Woodward takes digs at every single person in the cabinet.

I should have never read the darn thing...put me in a bad mood.

I disagree. Go back and look at the photos posted under # 2,,,Laura is looking skeptically at Barney, as if to question whether or not Barney will actually straighten up and get the act together. I don't think it is the girls, I think it's the dog. *Wondering what Barney did to Air Force One*

I wished i'd have read this before buying that book!

I only peeked a little into it and was not impressed.

If I'd have asked you or one of the other Dosers about that book I would have saved me some money by not getting it.

My husband bought it for me for Christmas. Since he tried so hard to get me things I would enjoy, I thought I would go ahead and read it, since there were mixed reviews on the thing.

Personally, I think Woodward has very cleverly used his writing skill to portray the administration as something they are not. He jumps around, leaves things out, and makes Powell's thoughts sound very literary, while he quotes the President directly, leaving in stammers and stuff.

A Citizen Reporter was exactly rigiht. Woodward is a snake, and I do NOT think he admires the President, I think he was saying things in order to trick people into buying the book.

Well enough about that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PIPPIN!!

He pretended to admire GWB just to sell his book.

Now you should know that Woodward has been typecase since the 70's, and he will do anything to keep his name in the byline. (All journalists, whether they admit it or not, are egocentristic and live having some spotlight, no matter how unflattering it is. (Well, maybe not Ann Coulter, who isn't a journalist by trade...)

Personally, he should have retired 10 years ago. His journalism would make the muckrakers of last century proud. ('cept his methods are so junior high schoo.....)

Fer sure. It makes me wonder if we shouldn't be on "red alert" status. He's not grumpy by nature, and his family usually makes him even happier.

Happy birthday pippin!

You got lucky with a birthday on the 26th, didn't you?

I wouldn't read George and Laura either. Looks like an uplifting book, says he's changed but chronicles in great detail every grungy thing he ever did. I felt really bad after reading it. Now I'll keep the Woodward book off my list as well.

I'm reading Theodore Rex now, I didn't read it when it first came out and really enjoy it. There are a number of things that remind me of W. This book presents several aspects of his character which surprised me. Theodore Roosevelt had a lot of boyishness and exuberance, loved sports. That reminds me of W.
