It won't matter if there's another 'incident' or not. That bill is as good as re-signed. However, that doesn't mean we gun owners shouldn't do our very best to fight the good fight.

As I recall the saying goes; "Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action".

We are already past the third time limit.

If ANOTHER convenient crime is committed just in time to prop up the anti's efforts there can be no doubt that they will have had a hand in it.

I bookmarked the web site. Thank you. The clock is kind of thought provoking. I feel like I'm already late in starting those letters.

Thanks for the update on the program. The only thing guns on TV make me want to do is shut the thing off and head for the range.

All my DC elected officials, Campbell, Allard, and McInnis, have already been hearing [(800) 648-3516] from me about this nefarious act. And this is what I'm telling them: I will never vote for any currently seated Republican, top to bottom - no matter how they individually vote - if HR 4296 is renewed. Simply put, I expect effectiveness from my legislators; renewal would be prima facie evidence of their ineffectiveness.

And, I might add, this endowment member will be watching the NRA closely. Any attempt to compromise on this issue will see my membership card cut in pieces and mailed to Fairfax.

That's the plot of my novel.

Liberty Forum I think.....home to many a disgruntled or banned FReeper. The site gets panned a lot because they don't delete "offensive" stuff....so I hear.

Come on now... It's not a done deal yet! There is a good chance it won't be renewed. The Democrats will remember what happened to Al Gore where he lost several key states and the election over the gun issue. I don't think the smart ones will be so keen on pushing it. If there is one thing they want more than banning guns, it is power.

It should be interesting to watch some RINOs squirm since the ban sunsets just before the November '04 elections.

Not if Free Republic has something to do about it.

Let us have destiny in our control. We need to start to put pressure on Congress NOW!!!!

That way, Republicans will know that we are serious and that if they chose to do the wrong thing in 2004, they will lose the majority status that they worked so long and hard to attain it.

Then, Republicans would know that we are a serious force to reckon with and that they would do what we want them to do.

No more ban on Assault Weapons!

The Republicans are politicans, they want to stay in power more than anything else.

I thought I was pessimistic. The Crime-of-a-bill is going down, folks. Yes, the Senate is certainyl squishy and President Bush isn't the best friend we have, but the House has a pro-gun majority and President Bush is well-aware of gun-owners' electoral voice.

The sunset is scheduled for September. The election is in November. A failure to sunset just two months before the election will be easily remembered. They know that.

The keys are letters to the newly seated Congress, and getting the 95% of gun owners for whom even writing a letter is too much work to do even that for once. GOA style postcards won't do; they're thrown away by the truckload. We've got to have real letters, with stamps and signatures, steadily showing up in Congressional offices between January 2003 and November 2004.

Be polite, point out that there's no "assault weapon" crime problem, and urge them to let the ban expire as scheduled. Electoral threats of "I'm never voting for you!" sound childish and don't become gun owners. We're responsible, pleasant people, great next-door neighbors, right?

Those who write now that we're doomed, the ban will be renewed, are being defeatist. It'll be a self-fulfilling prophecy if we heed them. We put pro-gun people into office this last election through our hard work. Let's keep it up and made sure this ban goes away - if it stays, then we will have only ourselves to blame.

The law will be renewed in 2004.
The President will sign it.
You will vote for the Republican candidate anyway.

I'm sure that GHWB thought he would get away with stupid stuff too.

That's great. I wish I had a talent to do that. I hope you don't mind if I save it and then post it once in a while. Thanks.

The Republicans may not lose the Presidency in 2004 if they don't sunset the law but their contributions will disappear after that. The NRA and the Repubicans have slowly elected pro-gun candidates since clintoon was first elected. I hope the Republicans don't throw all that hard work away with a stroke of a pen.

95% of the gun owners who sit on the sidelines.

Unfortunately, too many gun owners are actually in favor of greater gun control, especially when it comes to "scary" guns. I've had the displeasure of talking to any number of hunters and skeet shooters who think that no one other than the military and law enforcement should be allowed to own a handgun or military-style semi-auto. This fifth column is more of a danger than the Brady Bunch will ever be, because if all the gun owners in this nation were united, NO anti-2nd Amendment legislation would EVER by passed in this country, period.
