SAN RAMON, Calif, (Reuters) - ChevronTexaco Corp. (CVX.N) said on Wednesday it will stop using the groundwater polluting chemical MTBE in California gasoline, several months ahead of a state ban.
Chevron will eliminate the use of methyl tertiary butyl ether, or MTBE, this month in southern California, and extend the ban statewide by May.

Imagine those nasty oil companies putting that cancer-causing chemical in the gasoline. Good thing the state banned it before they killed us all.
Oh wait... it was the state that required the oil companies to put that stuff in there, wasn't it. Yeah, it was gonna clean the air and make everything wonderful. I wonder how that piece of history got left out of the news story.

Ah heck, we wanted eliminated since 1998! Took over 120000 signed petitions to former Gov Pete Wilson, to make all those crazy politicians in Sacramento to get rid of it, with thanks of Jodi Waters of Oxybusters, Lodi Ca. But nooooo, the lobbyist kept selling them more lies, until further evidence came into play. ;o)
All a money in someone's pocket game, just like Ethenol to be used instead. What the heck still an additive, and still crap stuff, and harmful.

IIRC, MTBE was something that good ol' Al Gore was very big on. Funny how that doesn't get mentioned either.
