You do realize that California exports enough in Federal taxes to wipe out that deficit?

I know that Californians pay more Federal tax than California receives in Federal spending in the state. On balance, that is probably true for most states, since the Feds spend money on building bases in Qatar, on embassies in Africa, etc.

Californians should demand more pork barrel spending in their state, I suppose.

I would also add that the reason they get so much tax money out here is because those Bay Area liberals make so damn much money. Housing prices are high, and so are education levels. Silicon Valley technology companies and venture capital PRODUCE enough wealth to push the bulk of its residents into higher tax brackets. As a proportion of total income, we get hosed.
