[history]
A former Energy Department intelligence chief charges in his new book that fired Los Alamos nuclear scientist Wen Ho Lee provided sensitive weapons data to China during unreported meetings with nuclear-weapons scientists.
The FBI, however, mishandled the counterespionage investigation of Mr. Lee because the nuclear weapons designer and his wife worked as FBI informants, according to the book by Notra Trulock, Energy intelligence director from 1994 to 1998.

It angers me that this threat is not seen in its total enormity! Chinese spying has basically become as mundane as a drive-by shooting in Compton! Yet there is a chance that these stolen technologies will one day be utilized against the Free World ....and who is the Bastion of the Free World? The USA! Meaning, obviously, that they will be used against brave Americans.

And we still continue to migrate our technology and manufacturing capability to China. The thought sickens me.

I recall the "raid" covered in the Santa Fe
New Mexican--Two carloads of FBI agents conferred on the street and onlookers thought they were "men lost on the way to a sporting event".
Berger and Reno blocked efforts to obtain search warrants and wire taps on Lee--though it was the rarest of exceptions, almost every other request being granted.
It seemed obvious that Lee was accessing and downloading top secret material he had no legitimate right to, at times calculated to conceal his activities; that his accounting was wholly inadequate and unconvincing; in short, that he was a spy.
That Notra Trulock was smeared as a "racist" was the height of Alice In Wonderland absurdity; that there can be an innocent explanation for Lee's activities is inconceivable.
Santa Fe has been subjected to a week of temperatures in the fifties due to the hot air passing between Richardson and PDRK UN ambassador Han--during which Richardson said "the Axis of Evil remark was not helpful"--this from the Energy Secretary who allowed the security of the Labs to be compromised.
We await Code Name Kindred Spirit with the greatest interest.

Kindred Spirit bump.
To: PhilDragoo
Well, Richardson was just being honest--considering which side he is rooting for.

I guess the tinfoil has come home to roost yet again.
Wen Ho Lee being protected by the FBI whilst providing nuclear secrets to the Chinese?
Say it ain't so...

Now he's saying that North Koreans don't intend to build bombs .
I wonder if good'ole NK buddy Han walked off with a suitcase full of secrets given him by Richardson, or if they just used a laptop to transfer all the info...

Thanks for remembering this. Government censors categorically refused to let me include this in the book.

Thanks for remembering this. Government censors categorically refused to let me include this in the book. First off, thank you for your service to our country, and I applaud you for your integrity. Now what's this about censors? Even ABC News reported the story, how could the government prevent you from writing about that in your book? Could it be that we haven't heard the whole story on that?
To: ntrulock
I look forward to your book as well. Please ping me when it is available.
I'll swap you, two for one. LOL!

Based on descriptions of Lee's personality...I would guess and say that he is an extremely naive person. He may be well educated and a nuclear scientist...but he is totally gullable. Most of his close associates will hint at that...and I think this is the real story here. Lee probably still believes in his innocence...but the Taiwanese sources knew exactly how to handle him...and they got what they needed.

Lee probably still believes in his innocence...but the Taiwanese sources knew exactly how to handle him...and they got what they needed. It's not so much what he said to the Taiwanese that is a problem. It's what he did for the People's Republic of China that poses a serious threat. I can't see a person with that type of position being "suckered" into giving up classified data of the sort pertaining to the W-88 warhead.
To: PhilDragoo
I feel Lee probably did nothing that other Los Alamos researchers also did.
Lee was most likely a Billy Dale railroaded by the Clinton's when it became known that Chinese communist officials were attending Clinton fundraisers and donating funds illegally.
It was the Clinton administration who leaked all the Lee info to liberal media. It was Bill Richardson who led the charge against Lee, actually pronouncing him guilty before he was even indicted.
I do not like, though, how Lee let himself be used by others with agendas.
