I've been toying with the notion that much of the appeal of liberalism is to the reptilian brain. For example, complaints that leftists are being hypocritical don't seem to bother them a bit -- they aren't so much concerned with being intellectually consistent, but with feeling right to a more primitive, less adaptable, layer of the brain.

Liberals appeal strictly to the limbic emotional brain, not a logical thought in sight.

Proof? Ever try to have a logical debate with a liberal? They are incapable of rational neo-cortical thinking.

See if you can connect with liberals through their hypo-thalymus (or is that hypo-thalami?}

I think the medulla oblongata is your likely best approach for liberal communication.

I've been toying with the notion that much of the appeal of liberalism is to the reptilian brain.

From what MacLean proposes that would be the Limbic System. To wit:

MacLean claims to have found in the Limbic system a physical basis for the dogmatic and paranoid tendency, the biological basis for the tendency of thinking to be subordinate feeling, to rationalize desires. He sees a great danger in all this limbic system power. As he understands it, this lowly mammalian brain of the limbic system tends to be the seat of our value judgements, instead of the more advanced neocortex. It decides whether our higher brain has a "good" idea or not, whether it feels true and right.

actually that's a salamander which is not reptillian but rather amphibian.

This is a still more primitive creature as it must return to the water to spawn. The salamander like the frog spends its early life with gills swimming like a fish.

LOL!

Only on FR could one use the phrase, "I got carried away with my limbic delight," and know that his audience would see the humor in it.

Although I don't believe in evolution, I DO believe that The Liberal Left has a reptilian brain, if they have a brain at all. LOL If you need proof, look at Carville. 100% pure reptile. and Hillary too. they all crawled out from under a rock.

I've been toying with the notion that much of the appeal of liberalism is to the reptilian brain.

Nyuk nyuk nyuk... Basal, limbic, whathaveyou-- this is an in-neresting article here, Cow, even though somebody misspelled "intellectual" in the first graphic... [snortle]

Reading through the descriptions of the so-called reptilian and mammalian brain centers, or residuals if you will, I was struck by the realization of how many folks I have come across that seem to operate purely on these levels... Liberals for sure, but not only them... Well for that matter, we all have our animal moments. I myself went to Mickey D's this morning because I durn well FELT like it, blatantly disregarding vague resolutions to quit that sh!t and eat more carrots or something, bwaha...

But how many of us don't delve into our brains' potential like we should? How many of us are content with intellectual lethargy and stagnation, letting our minds go to rot as the world passes us by in one big vaudeville show? As the Saint Paul or somebody said, I am the chief offender. (Hey, it's Sunday. ;)

Well to OUR credit it takes some mental exertion to be a conservative. You gotta know WHY you believe in stuff that makes other folks revile you, so we got that going for us...
