That would explain why the Marines were working so far from their base at Camp Pendelton and out of Ft. Bliss, TX.

That's a correct distinction not often noted these days.
Now, has anyone considered that they might have taken fire or been avoiding fire?
If Solo Gringo is still on...
Has there been any kind of skirmishing down there? Marines or otherwise?

I'm in TX.....I know DEA usually spends more time along the
border after "harvest time".
I watched late TX news last night, and was on the 'puter
too. I find it a little strange this happened at 9:30
last night and we didn't hear about it until 6:30 this AM.
Dallas news starts at 5:00 AM

Assisting the Border Patrol? Wow! This is news in more ways than one!
To: txdoda
Could it be because there was no distress call and the crash site was not located until this AM?
Here is what I don't understand: AH-1W's with all the IR and night vision devices seems like an expensive asset to be used for this activity. I'm not familiar with the mission, tactics or territory, but wouldn't something like the unmanned Predator drones be ideal for this type thing?

RE post 7: The reason they have accidents is because they don't get proper flight time training. This has been the history of the military. X42 spent all training money on foreign intervention, and that may be what is going on now.

Just back from checking the livestock.Yes our english lango is not spoken very close or often. But we are the second line of the gaurd here in my area.in fifteen years we have reported about 9 hundred sighting of funnie business.

Two choppers *lost* for hours....hopefully, DEA & BP are
better equipped than that......
They say lots of drugs are moved at night, so I'm sure
both DEA and BP are equipped with night vision devices.
I'm not close to the border......maybe "solo gringo" will
be back with some local news soon...

Prayers for those brave Marines and their grieving families.

Mid air collisions between Cobras at night are very rare. How rare? I can't remember the last one.

The Border Patrol has used Marine Cobras several times in the past. They are used for drug interdiction as well as locating illegals crossing the border. RPV's or drones have been used as well.

I'm not a big fan of placing the military on the border. However, when used in passive enforcement like we see with the use of Marine Cobras, I'm all for it.

Oh YES.....look how GOOD are "passive enforcement" of the borders has worked on our 30 year "war on drugs"....If we
maintain this same "passive enforcement" of our borders for the "war on terror", for the next 30 years (???), the USA
will then have a TERRORIST selling DRUGS on every street corner.....
