I don't have a positive answer (I did say I wasn't sure), but two or three things make me suspicious:

A) There are a lot of similarities with Ruby Ridge, such as the FBI primed for a confrontation over a fairly small matter,
B) There was no direct evidence that Peltier was the shooter,
C) A friend of mine, a South Dakotan conservative who has looked at it in depth, believes that Peltier was railroaded on these particular charges.

I don't doubt that Peltier was trouble, but I have doubts on this sentence.

I was a teenager when this happened. All I remember was hearing he supposedly shot two FBI guys @ point blank range. He's a hero to the left just like Mumia Abu Jamal, who is definitely guilty. Guilt by association? Perhaps.

Peltier says he didn't do the shooting but was there with the shooters and knows their identities.

In other words he admits to being an accomplice in a felony murder, which means that, pull the trigger or not, he's just as guilty as the shooters.

My wife and her family, conservatives all would disagree with your friend.

One of the agents murdered in that ambush (Ron Williams) was my wife's cousin.

His mother has made it her life's work to keep Peltier in jail.
