January 26, 2003 -- The FBI is getting the sealed records of ex-U.N. arms inspector Scott Ritter's Internet kiddie-sex-sting bust with an eye toward slapping him with federal charges, officials said yesterday.

A judge last week signed an order requiring cops and prosecutors to hand over all records and any evidence in the Ritter case to the FBI and the U.S. attorney's office.

Sick, evil pervert. And as is the case with other sex-addict perverts, he may have done this sort of thing with other young girls but not gotten caught. Since he was caught twice, who knows about other times when he wasn't caught? Sickos like this can't control themselves.
It's so great that he was caught. I can't believe anyone - even wacked out leftists - will support him now.

The bust came just two months after Ritter was nabbed in a similar undercover operation involving a 14-year-old girl but was released without being charged.

That's a scary pattern already. I wonder what this scumbag has done before that we don't know about. I doubt that he suddenly decided to start being a child molester 2 years ago.

(:^D)

So the Post seriously expects us to believe that the FBI were unaware of the case until last week?

They must think the rest of America are as stupid as the New Yorkers who buy their paper.

I wonder if the FBI already has additional information from other jurisdictions in which Ritter might be suspected of meeting real 14- and 16-year-olds, instead of ones with handcuffs, badges and back-up.

All the recent publicity may have caused actual victims to come forward to other law-enforcement agencies. God knows a real victim wouldn't go tell the same cops and prosecutors who cut deals with Ritter twice in the past. They might instead go to the FBI. And, as a result, the FBI may need the original case files to put everything in context for future prosecutions.

Or, this could just be the FBI trying to pile on or get a second bite of the apple, in which case I wouldn't be too supportive of that, despite my disgust with how the first two episodes were handled.

This conduct in person gets him but a slap on the wrist, while if he'd done it before some suitably arranged ink on paper it could get him sent to jail for years? Something's scandalous here, but I can't quite figure it out.

From theNY Daily News:

Ex-UN aide may face federal sex rap

ALBANY - Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter, snared two years ago in an Internet sex sting, now may face a federal probe in the case.

Acting on a request from local federal prosecutors, state Supreme Court Justice Joseph Teresi has directed that sealed Ritter case files be turned over to the feds, officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Ritter, a vocal opponent of President Bush's Iraqi war preparations, was arrested by police in Colonie, an Albany suburb, in June 2001 on a misdemeanor charge of endangering an underage girl.

Sources familiar with the case said Ritter, now 41, used the Internet handle "onexhibition" as he arranged a meeting with the teen - actually an undercover cop - and proposed that she watch him masturbate.

The case was adjourned in contemplation of dismissal, meaning that if he stayed out of trouble for six months, the charges would be erased and the case sealed.

However, sources familiar with the case said the feds still could prosecute Ritter under federal law for allegedly trying to lure a minor into sexual activity.

Ritter has confirmed the arrest but said that news reports about it surfaced in an attempt to silence his opposition to a war with Iraq. He has refused to discuss details of the case.

Ritter and his attorney, Norah Murphy, did not return phone calls.

Neither Teresi - who presided over the trial of four New York City cops acquitted in 2000 in the fatal police shooting of Amadou Diallo in the Bronx in February 1999 - nor federal prosecutors could be reached for comment.

"I'd like nothing more than to be a vocal opponent to this war, to being an effective voice to the anti-war movement," Ritter told Schenectady TV station WRGB after the scandal surfaced.

I still want to know about the following:

1. The children's prison in Iraq, and why he was there, and if any other inspectors were with him.

2. WHY Cynthia Preiser came to an agreement with his attorney for this settlement.

3. Who all is involved in this deal besides Preiser?

To think, the poor readers of The New York Times haven't seen a word of this story.

This really smells. Ritter was caught in April of 2001. Then just two months later, he commits the same crime. Who in their right mind would recommend a dismissal if he is "good" for six more months? It just doesn't wash with me and makes the answers to your last two questions all the more interesting.

One of the reasons that I think that there are some democrats involved in this deal is the total absence of coverage by the New York Times. If the FBI or Republicans were involved in this deal, they would be howling about it all over their front page. Since there is absolutely zero coverage, I must conclude that the Times is protecting someone, and that person is interestingly influential with their newsroom.

Something tells me there are members of the original Iraq inspection team who know of Ritter's tendencies.

If the FBI is doing its job, they will be doing some important interviews.

What an interesting conclusion! Until the recent revelations of Ritter's proclivities, he was revered by the left as an informed insider on Iraq. No other spokesperson could appear on the national scene with stronger credentials to attack our President's war against Saddam. The fact that he was a former Marine as well as a former weapons inspector had the sheeple believing every word.

If the story is being spiked by the Times, you have to wonder who had the most to gain by Ritter's criticism of this administration. Donning my mylar (tinfoil is so tacky) I'd say Hillary has the best motive (and it sounds like something she'd do). Incidentally, they did carry her comments - in full - criticizing the administration's lax handling of security in the event of another attack on America.

We KNOW Dems are involved here just BECAUSE The NY Times refuses to discuss it. Finding out WHICH Dems will be the fun part. We do know one thing today. Scott Ritter is the scum of the earth and his Dem friends helped to get his perverted tendencies covered up. This story has legs. And what a screen name he had: onexhibition...well, doesn't that just say it all!

My impression it did not appear in the Times comes from this Page Six tidbit in the Post:

READERS of the New York Times, as of yesterday, still hadn't been informed of Scott Ritter's sex-sting arrest. Ritter is the former UN arms inspector who has lately been defending Saddam Hussein to become a darling of the anti-war movement. The news of his arrest nearly two years ago - allegedly for trying to lure a 16-year-old girl he contacted on the Internet for sex - broke a week ago in the Schenectady Gazette. The Post and many other newspapers carried the story after the Associated Press had it on Tuesday. But not a word in the Times. When The Post's Fred Dicker called Ritter the "Pee-wee Herman of the anti-war movement" on the Don Imus radio show yesterday, Imus said Dicker was being "unfair to Pee-wee."

Personally, I think the New York Daily News fell victim to the same erroneous talking points as Catherine Crier. The assumptioin that the judge was the same as the attorney in the Florida Recount led them to think this could all be pinned on Bush. Too late, they have discovered their error, and they are left with having to cover the story.

Not as early as the Schenectady paper. And they may read Free Republic, where the story was posted. Or they may have read the Schenectady paper. If I remember correctly, the original article in the Daily News was a rehash of the Schenectady paper's story.

Perhaps the N.Y. times didn't print the story because, to them pedephilia just isnt newsworthy. They have been listing gay "marriages" for quite some time. Any deviant behavoir is probably okay by them. "...Police said the father of young teen twin daughters planned to have the girl watch while he masturbated..."

I'm disinclined to take the word of police agencies for anything. As a group they are notoriously self-serving, error prone and generally unreliable.

But there is a preponderance of evidence, including statements by Ritter himself, that lead me to conclude that he is guilty of at least this, if not more.

"Police said the father of young teen twin daughters planned to have the girl watch while he masturbated."

This is all anyone will ever need to know where Ritter is concerned...

Nothing he believes matters...

Nothing he has to say matters...

Nothing he does, or plans to do matters...

He's just a 40 something old deviant who wants for teen-age girls like his daughters to watch him masturbate.

God may forgive him for that. That's God's business.

But mankind would be presumptuous to do so, and foolish to try...

Ritter is poison, a disease, a mad dog poised to bite.

To tolerate him in our midst is utter folly.

While it doesn't appear she has been hounded, I do believe there was an article or two where it was reported she either could not be reached or had no comment.

I also recall it being reported her father is a lawyer and a law professor and she was one of his students, and he had a comment of some sort, touching on the general subject. If I run across the reference I will post it.

Unless a crime is against the Fed Govt. very few crimes are federalized.

Murdering, raping, robbing amongst the general population are not federal crimes. Janet Reno talking about the Branch Davidians molesting children was nonsense, since child molestation is not a federal crime.

The FBI has to be after something else. Like this guy being blackmailed by the Iraquis for something the Iraquis found out about his sexual deviation, which via blackmail could effect our national security. - Tom

I question this chronology. My understanding is the DA found out about the deal somehow--but not in the media--and fired Preiser. It was the firing that a reporter was looking into that sparked the story hitting the press.

If, in fact, there was a media story printed that brought the DA's attention to the story, then that original story needs to be found and posted.

The first story on FR, from the Schenetady Daily Gazette, cited the firing.
