Yes, we're in a sad state of affairs when folks like your grandparents are punished for living a decent, healthy life while fighting for our country and raising honorable children. Contrary to what's been posted already, regardless of which generation one resides in we're all facing a future of extreme uncertainty that could become a real disaster for everyone unless our alleged leaders solve their collective problems with rectal/crainial inversion.

To illustrate how ludicrous things have become....at the very same time the fedgov is seeking to cut benefits to war veterans and other retirees there's a movement in Washington to make some Mexicans eligible to receive Social Security benefits even though they may have worked in the USA illegally and here's the real fun part...IF THEY DIDN'T ACCUMULATE ENOUGH (WORKING) QUARTERS HERE IN THE STATES THE TIME THEY SPENT WORKING IN MEXICO WOULD BE ADDED IN SO THAT THEY CAN QUALIFY!! What the hell kind of nonsense is that! My suggestion is that instead of whacking each other on this forum we should be pounding away at the CONgresscritters trying to push this idiocy through.

I don't mind folks coming over here to work (legally, or illegally), but the scenario you describe regarding working in Mexico and accruing social security benefits is mind-blowing. Obviously the Mexican government isn't subsidizing our social security fund, we are. I had no idea this was being contemplated. Is this for all immigrant labor, or just Mexico?

Any links to sources regarding the nightmare you describe would be appreciated.

This is the most staggering fact I've learned in a while.

Thanks.

This was first posted in FR about 1-2 weeks ago and the orignial source was Cong. Ron Paul from TX. (Houston area).
There should be either a letter from him or an announcement from his office regarding this nonsense. I was able to call his hot line and have an audio recording of him talking about this scam.

Also, one thing to understand about illegals working here in the USA....many of them are working for minimum wages while their employers evade several payroll taxes and they know full well that taxpayers will subsidize their workers expenses for housing, medical, food, etc. This amounts to corporate welfare at it's finest and that's why we see a never ending spiral of increases for property taxes, health care premiums, etc. This system is stealing from the future of America's children and is creating unbelievable amounts of debt that they will never be able to repay.

Thanks, either love him or hate him, Ron Paul tells it like it is. Why am I not surprised that he is the most articulate critic of the status quo.

Yeah, Ron Pauls' a pretty good guy and even he leaves a lot of important stuff out of the discussion but he's still one of the best we have. One thing I'd like you and other young folks to remember is that a lot of us recognized many years ago the seriousness of what we face today and have done a lot to inform people.....did we do all could? Maybe, maybe not although we stood on street corners, bombarded talk shows to inform others over the radio and have utilized the internet as much as possible. Please know that many of us tried to protect your future as much as possible and I can tell you that I'm 51 and this country looks NOTHING like it did when I was in my 20's.....it's a tragedy. Can we save it?......who knows but we're still going to do all we can until we can't do no more.....that's our promise to you and your generation. God Bless.

Everyone seems to be missing the generation that really did this, the a$$hole generation of Teddy Kennedy, and yes some of the liberal boomers that were indocrinated by the Karl Marx school that government can provide everything. I am a 53 year old twice retired, and working again, cause I'm not depending on my children (love em) nor the government to carry my a$$ anywhere.

It really galls me when a bunch of self indulgent hippies looks at us with scorn. What a bunch of self absorbed horsepucky. We are the product of thier divorces. We are the product of thier abortions (not literally, of course). We are the product of their shrink-wrapped, processed, non-dairy petroleum cheese by-product, celbrity obsessed, go-go, self indulgent lifestyle. Bill Clinton is their exemplar. And we have a problem?

I couldn't agree more. Never met one like that that I ever liked.
