You know, I lurked here at FR for years - hard to believe now. But the thing that kept bringing me back was (and has been) the sharp, logical and sometimes funny responses by Freepers to a post. Many times after clicking on a topic, I first drop down to the comments so I can get the gist of the articles by the reactions. My kindred spirits reside at Freerepublic.

As discussed a couple of days ago FReeRepublic is the Stickiest web site per Nielsen Ratings and posted in the NYT back in March or April meaning when people land here they stay here for a longer period of time then any other website.

1) Make more hits on FR.

I do, all the time!

2) Respond to a good post.

Ditto.

3) Make FR your home page, so you get a hit when you open your web browser.

I did that a long time ago.

4) Send an FR discussions link to a friend who might be interested. Encourage them to sign up to FR.

I've done that many times, and also to some of my more conservative relatives!
I know for a fact that some of them lurk, but have no idea if they've registered yet.

Nice to see favorable publicity but note well that their rankings are created "...by analyzing the Web usage of millions of Alexa Toolbar users."
I've never seen, let alone used, an "Alexa Toolbar" and I'd bet that goes for the large majority of Freepers. I wouldn't go to the bank with rankings based on a minuscule, and possibly not very representative, sample of the web-using public.

I FReeped so much at work that the system admin now blocks the site at the firewall. It's killing me. Anytime there is a breaking story during the day, I make it a point to wonder aloud what the guys on FR are saying about it. Hopefully, I'll chip away at his resolve and get it turned back on.

My family has to make appointments to see me now otherwise I'm locked in my dungeon reading FR.
