USS Harry S. Truman carrier in joint exercise with Albanian army

TIRANA, Albania (AP) _ The American aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman is in the Adriatic Sea for maneuvers with the Albanian military, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto also is participating in the exercise, which began Saturday and is set to end Feb. 10, a ministry statement said.

The exercise, held near the Albanian port of Vlora, 85 miles southwest of Tirana, is intended to help Albania's military reach NATO standards. Albania hopes to become a member of the military alliance.

The two U.S. warships are in the Mediterranean to be within striking distance of Iraq in the event of war.

DALE McFEATTERS: Our stalwart ally ... Albania?

Our State Dept. never met a Muslim nation it did not like at first sight. Iraq included.

On the one hand, the more the merrier (I think). On the other, how can we trust these people to back us if they share a common religion AGAINST us and WITH many of our major enemies?

Hey, as Greece tilts more and more against us, we need friendly ports and airbases in the area.
Albania has come a long way, and has a long way to go - but those countries newly free are some of our best allies.
Good for Albania, and good for us - LET'S ROLL !!

Your ignorance disgusts me.

This from a guy who evidently idolizes a plastic toy action figure, and says ridiculous stuff like Our State Dept. never met a Muslim nation it did not like at first sight. Iraq included.

"...how can we trust these people to back us if they share a common religion AGAINST us and WITH many of our major enemies..."

Yea, but there are a lot of countries that share a common religion with us that would stab us in the back in a heart beat - I mean I would trust Turkey before I would trust the French...

My statement stands. Name me a Muslim nation the USA has not courted in the past only to have it turn bad on them?

Bootlickers of the State Dept just like the State Dept (it matters not what party is in power) never learn.

Read any recent history of the region latly that makes the Albanian worthy of alliance? Not that I expect you to know anything about recent history or world affairs from the look of your post.

  Hey!

Destro is cool!

And he's right.  The only good thing about this military cooperation is if we're spying.

"Your ignorance..."

Um, please be more specific. My ignorance in what area?
I mean, I am fairly ignorant in, say, the art of ballet, which may be more your speed...

Oh, heck - just read your profile page. Why am I even bothering?
One, you are not even American, and two, you are, what, like 12 years-old?

Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey, to name three. It might be said that we're "courting" Afghanistan, too.

Oh, and we haven't had cause to regret our association with Morocco. Saudi hasn't been an unqualified success, but it's not too bad. Our relations with Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE are holding in there, too.

So ... I believe you were blathering about "having it turn bad?"

All those Muslim nations are a horror to their people or shall I only pat a nation on its back if it heels like a good doggie to our foreign policy whims?

All? A "horror?" You're quite misinformed. Not surprising, given that you're named for a brainless plastic action figure.
