CHICAGO (AP) -- Federal prosecutors accused a Syrian-born American of once leading a Muslim charity that the Treasury Department calls a terrorist group, and said he tried to help Osama bin Laden get a nuclear weapon.
The government said Mohamed Loay Bayazid was president of the suburban Chicago-based Benevolence International Foundation in 1994, about the same time he is accused of trying to get uranium for al-Qaida.

This hit in the
chicago media right after the 9-11 doings in December 01. Technically it became the first "BACKLASH" story and was quickly dropped with a laywer, a stillshot, and a denial. Thanks media, whether local or national, you all suck.

"Bin Laden's son marries in Saudi Arabia: Report
Posted on Friday, January 31 @ 00:29:46 ICT By She Taliban
AFP[ THURSDAY, JANUARY 30, 2003 06:59:04 PM ]
RIYADH: One of several sons of Al-Qaeda network leader Osama bin Laden has wed a Saudi bride in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, the Saudi-owned Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported on Thursday.
The simple wedding, which took place on Wednesday at the house of the groom's uncle was attended only by close relatives, the daily said. It gave the name of Bin Laden's son as Ali.
Abdullah, Bin Laden's elder son, his mother and several brothers and sisters have been leading a normal life in Jeddah since arriving from Sudan in 1996.
Saudi Arabia withdrew Osama's citizenship in 1994 over his alleged terrorist activities and criticism of the royal family.
The Jeddah-based Bin Laden family, one of the wealthiest and best-connected in the kingdom, has condemned the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington blamed on Osama.
Bin Laden had worked for his father's construction company before fighting alongside Afghan guerrillas in the US-backed 'jihad' against the Soviet Union which invaded Afghanistan in 1979.
Born in Jeddah, in 1957, Bin Laden is the 12th child of a Saudi billionaire of Yemeni origin, who had 25 sons and daughters.

CNEWS.CANOE.ca (AP): Chicago. "PROSECUTOR ALLEGES HEAD OF MUSLIM CHARITY TRIED TO GET URANIUM FOR AL QAIDA" (ARTICLE SNIPPETS: "Prosecutors say Mohamed Loay Bayazid was president of the suburban Chicago-based Benevolence International Foundation in 1994, about the same time he is accused of trying to get uranium for al-Qaida. They also said the UBS financial services company and computer giants Microsoft and Compaq donated thousands of dollars to the foundation through an employee gift-matching program." ...
"The government had previously linked Bayazid to the charity, saying he had an Illinois driver's licence listing Benevolence headquarters in Palos Hills as his home address.
In the new filing, prosecutors cited internal Benevolence documents that allegedly show Bayazid was the charity's president. The document quoted minutes of a Benevolence meeting in 1994 stating that Bayazid ran the meeting." ...
"Public filings with Illinois authorities don't list Bayazid as a charity official.
Bayazid allegedly tried to obtain uranium for a nuclear weapon for bin Laden in 1993 or 1994 in Sudan, according to information that came out of a trial in New York City relating to the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in East Africa.
Bayazid, also known as Abu Rida al Suri, is a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Syria. His current whereabouts are unknown.") (January 30, 2003)
