Americans for Victory Over Terrorism to Hold Teach-In at Columbia University: America, Iraq and the War on Terrorism

William Bennett, James Woolsey, Ambassador Paul Bremer, Frank Gaffney and Prof. Walid Phares will speak to university students and faculty and make the case for America’s war on terrorist organizations and terror regimes.

On Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at Columbia University, Americans for Victory Over Terrorism (AVOT) will host the second of a series of teach-ins and lectures on university campuses across the nation.

As the United States continues to lead the world in the fight to eradicate terrorists and their networks, America finds itself on the brink of a new phase in the war on terrorism—war with Iraq.

After more than a decade of continuous deception by the brutal and dangerous dictator of Iraq, America and a coalition of other countries are preparing to eliminate the threat of Saddam Hussein, and to liberate the people of Iraq who have suffered for years under his iron-fist oppression.

The panel will discuss why it is necessary and just for America to take action against Iraq. They will also address other provocative subjects including: the ideological roots of Islamic terrorism, promoting democracy in the Arab world, the rise of the anti-war movement, and securing America’s homeland.

Date: Wednesday, February 12, 2003
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Where: Rennert Auditorium, Kraft Center for Jewish Life
Columbia University
606 West 115th Street
New York, NY 10025

Panelists include:
William J. Bennett, former Secretary of Education and Chairman of AVOT
James Woolsey, former CIA Director
Ambassador L. Paul Bremer, former Ambassador-At-Large for Counter Terrorism
Frank Gaffney, former Asst. Secretary of Defense, President of Center for Security Policy
Prof. Walid Phares, Middle East scholar, author and professor at Florida Atlantic University

The AVOT teach-in at Columbia University is free and open to all. Those in the media interested in attending can contact Shaun Small for more information at (202) 452-8200 or at ssmall@empower.org.

About AVOT:

Chaired by William J. Bennett, AVOT’s objective is to sustain and strengthen American public opinion as the war on terrorism moves forward. AVOT promotes the democratic ideals of freedom, liberty, equality, and human rights—the very virtues terrorist groups and terrorist states wish to eradicate—and answers those who seek to erode our nation’s resolve and commitment to fight and defeat the evil of terrorism. AVOT is a project of EMPOWER.org.
