[VA} Republican sends Senate members plastic fetus doll [infuriating Democrats]

RICHMOND -- A Republican lawmaker infuriated Democrats Wednesday by sending members of the Senate pink plastic fetus dolls with a letter asking, ``Would you kill this child?''

Del. Richard Black of Loudoun County said the doll, which he described as a ``little Barbie doll baby'' in its first trimester, was intended to remind senators of the human side of abortion. It was accompanied by a message on official state letterhead in which Black graphically describes what happens to a fetus during an abortion.

``This is the size and shape of an actual first-trimester baby,'' the letter reads. ``Abortionists kill most babies at this stage of development.''

Both the Senate and House are considering several important abortion bills in the closing weeks of the session, with conservative legislators confident many will get through with veto-proof margins. The tide of conservatism in both chambers has so alarmed Democrats that more than a dozen lawmakers attended a news conference Wednesday where they railed against measures they say will set abortion rights in Virginia back to the days before Roe v. Wade.

But Democratic legislators saved their harshest comments for Black's letter, which Senate Minority Leader Richard Saslaw of Fairfax County said was one of the most inappropriate things he has seen in his 23 years in the Senate.

``Quite frankly, the people who saw this were pretty repulsed by it,'' he said.

Added Sen. Leslie Byrne, D-Fairfax County, ``It shocked me and, as a matter of fact, my secretary was frightened. She saw this thing in the envelope and didn't know what it was.''

``It hurts the decorum of the General Assembly,'' she said.

House Speaker William Howell, R-Stafford, also called it a bad idea. He said too much attention is being paid to hot-button issues like abortion this session.

``It does take the focus off the bigger, broader issues that we're doing, and I think that's regrettable,'' Howell said.

Saslaw pointed the blame for the ratcheted-up rhetoric at Republicans. He and other Democrats attributed it to Republicans trying to curry favor with constituents during an election year.

``I've never seen such an avalanche of this,'' he said. ``I think it's only a matter of time, hopefully sooner than later, that the women of Virginia wake up and realize what's happening.''

Black has said he believes this will be the year to pass legislation banning a late-term procedure abortion opponents call ``partial-birth abortion'' and requiring minors seeking an abortion to receive permission from a parent. But despite his strong lobbying efforts on these issues, Black maintains the fetus dolls were in good taste.

``We have these babies all around our office,'' he said. ``We're always handing them out to people.''

His message to legislators was clear: ``I want each one of them to know what they're talking about when we talk about killing children. ... It's my belief that abortion is going to end in America within 10 years.''

Mission accomplished.

I hope and pray...

Roe v. Wade will be overturned within four years, IMHO...

Happy Birthday to the GREATEST POTUS in MY Lifetime--Ronald Reagan--although Dubyuh's startin' to give the Gipper a run fer his money!!

OTOH...My ol' man sent me this...

"An Open Letter to the EX-POTUS!!"

Dear Mr. EX-President Clinton:

I recently saw a bumper sticker that said, "Thank me, I voted for Clinton-Gore." So, I sat down and reflected on that, and I am sending my Thank you" for what you have done, specifically:

1. Thank you for introducing us to Jennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, Dolly Kyle Browning, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita Broderick. Did I leave anyone out?

2. Thank you for teaching my 8 year old about oral sex. I had really planned to wait until they were older to discuss it with them, but now they know more about it than I did as a senior in college.

3. Thank you for showing us that sexual harassment in the work place (especially the White House) and on the job is OK, and all you have to know is what the meaning of "is" is. It really is great to know that certain sexual acts are not sex, and one person may have sex while the other one involved does NOT have sex.

4. Thank you for reintroducing the concept of impeachment to a new generation and demonstrating that the ridiculous plot of the movie "Wag the Dog" could be plausible after all.

5. Thanks for making Jimmy Carter look competent, Gerald Ford look graceful, Richard Nixon look honest, Lyndon Johnson look truthful, and John Kennedy look moral.

6. Thank you for the 73 House and Senate witnesses who have pled the 5th Amendment and 17 witnesses who have fled the country to avoid testifying about Democratic campaign fund raising.

7. Thank you, for the 19 charges, 8 convictions, and 4 imprisonments from the Whitewater "mess" and the 55 criminal charges and 32 criminal convictions (so far) in the other "Clinton" scandals.

8. Thanks also for reducing our military by half, "gutting" much of our foreign policy, and flying all over the world on "vacations" carefully disguised as necessary trips.

9. Thank you, also, for "finding" millions of dollars--- I really didn't need it in the first place, and I can't think of a more well deserving group of recipients for my hard-earned dollars than jet fuel for all of your globe-trotting. I understand you, the family and your cronies have logged in more time aboard Air Force One than any other administration.

10. Now that you've left the White House, thanks for the 140 pardons of convicted felons and indicted felons-in-exile. We will love to have them rejoin society.

11. Thanks also for removing the White House silverware. I'm sure that Laura Bush didn't like the pattern anyway. Also, enjoy the housewarming gifts you've received from your "friends".

12. Thanks to you and your staff in the West Wing of the White House for vandalizing and destroying government property on the way out. I also appreciate removing all of that excess weight (China, silverware, linen, towels, ash trays, soap, pens, magnetic compass, flight manuals, etc.) out of Air Force One. The weight savings means burning less fuel, thus less tax dollars spent on jet fuel. Thank you!

13. And finally, please ensure that Hillary enjoys the $8 million dollar advance for her upcoming "tell-all" book and you, Bill, the $10 million advance for your memoirs. Who says crime doesn't pay!

14. The last and most important point - thank you for forcing Israel to let Mohammad Atta go free. Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners".

However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands. The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released. Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center.

This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified. It was censored in the US from all later reports. Why shouldn't Americans know the real truth?

What a guy!!

If you agree that the American public must be made aware of these facts, pass this on. God bless America and THANK YOU (once again) for spending my taxes so wisely and frugally.

SINCERELY, A U.S. Citizen

P.S. Please pass along a special thank you to Al Gore for "inventing" the Internet, without which I would not be able to send this wonderful factual e-mail.

I liked what Dennis Miller had to say on Hardball the other night.....he said that the anti-war Democrats might come on board if you just kinda said you planned to "abort" Saddam.

"Mission Accomplished."

"Yup, I hope he offended some good sense into them."

We hope, and we pray, for nothing is impossible with God.

I have to be reminded of God's power constantly when it comes to the conversion of Satan's legion, the Democrats(and some Repubs? like Howell.)

Right, I read that too. "Just think of it as a choice..." I love Dennis Miller's sarcasm. I hope he keeps ripping on the left with it.

Around 20 weeks to 24 weeks judging by how much room the little one appears to have (just guess on the age though). After wk 30, the quarters are much more cramped.

Dennis Miller is funny, but believe me, he's more left than right most of the time. Let's just enjoy his visit on the right.

RE: your tag line.

What else do they stand for? Socialism, no personal responsibility, no liberty.

I was driving in downtown Richmond last week on one of those waaaaay cold days and ran accross 6-8 folks who had blanketed the one-way trek up 9th Street from Grace (the vehicular entry into the VA State Capitol) to Broad (accross from Richmond's City Hall) with that cut-up fetus poster. My first reaction was disgust, of course, and then I thought as I sat at the light, "I sure am glad I don't have to explain this to the mudrats", but then I realized that this was a perfect location for a Morning FReep since almost all the cars were inhabited by folks heading to work, and this handful of folks was linking two governmental entities with their mini-FReep, so I rolled down my car window, honked my horn, and gave these brave folks a big thumbs-up and an early morning WOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"

That was the morning of the Commonwealth Prayer Breakfast. They were probably seen by a lot of people who share their views (and mine).
