Nation defenceless against nuke

14feb03

AUSTRALIA has no capacity to deal with a nuclear missile threat from North Korea, Defence Force Chief Peter Cosgrove has admitted.

"Any missile threat that might emanate from Korea is going to be something that is going to be something which is well beyond the ordinary and present capacity of the Australian Defence Force, or any other agency in Australia, to do anything about," he told Channel 9.

"It's a fact of life and we live in that environment.

"It's quite clear that what we want to do with Korea, what the international community wants to do with Korea, is to negotiate to a point where the Korean government understands what they're doing is unacceptable."

The Government has backed a decision by the international nuclear watchdog to refer suspected North Korean nuclear weapons breaches to the United Nations Security Council.

Except that the Aussies helped us out in Korea and quite a few other places since. The Aussies therefore have mates who have thousands of warheads...

Mates who would not mind a reason to clean up and disinfect that ugly little place.

Oz is big. It would take a lot more than whatever NK has to do much other than REALLY, REALLY get them EXTREMELY mad.

Despite their wimpy and antigun government, a P7ssed-off Aussie is a VERY SCARY thing.

I've got news for a lot of people, neither does California, Oregon or Washington. For that matter, neither does the States of Maine and Florida, as well as those in between. In short, the United States of America has no capacity to deal with ANY nuclear missile threat from ANY country.

Yes they do. The Aussie's have been steadfast allies to the US for nearly a century.

The problem is the "Big Left" has so disarmed the free world that we are now exposed to nuclear blackmail from "Punk" countries like No. Korea.

We have let the Big Left barter away our liberty to protect ourselves for the false sense of security in the United Nations.

We are completely at the mercy of insane Arabs and Korean Commies and we only have ourselves to blame.

The old nuke defence plan was of nuclear deterance.

Basically the aim is to have more nukes than the opposition.

I am in Australia and would be worried more about nuke in a shipping container than a nuke on a missile.

I am in California, near a port city, and fear the same. But regardless of the method of delivery, we have reduced ourselves as nations to the defensive status of a homeowner. We HAVE to wait until the burglar or nuke is in and actually stealing or ticking until we may act in our own defense.

Even then, we will have to justify our actions.

That's why I favor taking out the North Korean nukes and missiles. All this nonsense about using diplomacy to make NK give up its nuclear program is just that - nonsense. The NK's must laugh everytime they read it and shout - "We've won!"

A nuke in a shipping container leaves no contrails. Therefore, it is hard to trace.

The only deterence that America, Austrailia and the rest of the free world have against that type of attacks is the "round up the usual suspects" defence. The rogue nations must be made to know that a clandestine nuke attack on the free world is open season on dictators.

I'm thankful we have a president who will address the problem before it comes to that.

that would be a short term solution, in 5 years they would have more; i wonder what we would do then?

but yea, diplomacy ain't gonna work with these monkeys.

You bet! I went to college in Seattle WA. Everyday I would drive past the port cranes on my way home to Tacoma (another deep water container port). I used to think a nuke in any of the dozens of ships that sat in the Puget Sound would not only kill off most of the people in the city(ies), but would render the Sound un-navigable, effectively reducing or eliminating the ability to ship equipment/personnel out of the region...would most likely render the naval bases and military airfields (Paine, Boeing, and McChord AFB) unusable. Lots of potential combat power that could have been headed toward Korea (or China) would be rendered useless with one weapon. Amazing how vulnerable our borders and ports are...

regards,
