Has the National Review Finally Hit Rock Bottom?
http://www.nationalreview.com/thecorner/corner.asp ^ | February 22, 2003 | Jonah Goldberg

NOW FOR SOMETHING REALLY IMPORTANT [Jonah Goldberg ]

I saw "Old School" last night and I thought it was hilarious. There are some weak points and the script could have used one more rewrite to iron out some of the plot kinks which really start popping up halfway through. But that's all irrelevant. Because it is still frick'n hilarious. One caveat: if you are a woman you are less likely to find it amusing. I say this with 100% percent certainty. This is a movie about the male quarter/third life crisis which comes before the midlife crisis. I got that idea from the posts attached to a review of the movie in Entertainment Weekly. Note how the reviewer, a woman, dislikes the movie and the posters, mostly male, love it.

I can not believe this piece of garbage is the same magazine I read as a kid.

That's because you've turned into an old fart.

Anyway, its NationalReview.com, not the magazine.

They ARE different.

What was it Ann Coulter who called them "Girly Boys"? I've allowed my subscription to lapse. Been disappointed since Florence King departed.

Jonah Goldberg is, IMHO, hilarious. Old School, from the ads, looks pretty darn funny too. Life can't be serious all the time. Heck, we can't get a large portion of the world to be serious any of the time, why quibble over this?

Relax.

Stumbled into 'The Corner', eh? That section of NRO is considered to be the 'blog' section.

Old School was a VERY funny movie.

I haven't laughed that hard since There's Something About Mary.

Will Ferrell steals the show and Elisha Cuthbert, yowsa.

Huh? Some movies about crazy antics are a spoof on the sort of people who do the crazy antics -- i.e. they are made to look like idiots.

Look, if loving Old School makes me liberal or something, then I'm Josef friggin' Stalin. It is the most consistently funny movie I have seen in years. And I will be seeing again this week. Ferrell gives a comedic performance for the ages and Vince Vaughn kills. good for Jonah for having the guts to point this out.

Really? I let my subscription laspe after Gilder took over. I got a renewal request recently and I threw it away without even looking at it, but if it's back like before, I might check it out again.

No, those are Frenchlings. As opposed to Germanoids.

I'm not even forty yet. Maybe "young fogie" is more accurate.

Yes, the old Spectator is back under the direction of the master, Emitt Tyrrell, Jr. It is as good as "old."
