Try shooting a smoothbore pistol sometime...it isn't very accurate....besides, that says a lot for Yankee security too... It says that they didn't expect the confederates to stoop to murder. They were wrong.

So...If you feel that way, then I suppose you think Michael Collins and the Irish Republican Army were "murderers" for the assassinations they carried out during the Irish War for Independence?
However, John Wilkes Booth acted ENTIRELY on his own, and the Confederate Government had nothing to do with it.
He felt, however misguided, that killing Lincoln would help.
He was wrong in his thinking. If the Confederate Government had arranged for it two years before, things might have been different.
