[history]
OUTSPOKEN ex-pat literary lion Gore Vidal says the U.S. would lose a war with Iraq. "I don't see us winning the war," Vidal told WABC Radio the other day. "We have made enemies of one billion Muslims . . . Whatever Saddam has that might be atrocious - mustard gas, pox, viruses - we will ensure that he uses it." Vidal's opinion is rooted not in military knowledge but in his pathological hatred of President Bush. "As dumb as this administration is, they don't look ahead," Vidal sneers. "They don't know where any countries are. They don't know how to make deals. They don't really know much about anything. There is no plan . . . Now you have people [in Washington] who have no interest in the country at all. They're interested in their companies, their corporations grabbing Caspian oil." Vidal, who as we reported a couple week ago is planning to move back to Los Angeles, also blasts the press, complaining, "The media [have] never been more disgusting in my lifetime. Every lie out of Washington - they're out there doing war dances."

Without the slightest bit of self-consciousness Vidal will also contend that the weapons inspectors haven't proven that Saddam has any WMDs!

They're related. Vidal's father was some D.C. bureacrat and that, THAT is his ONLY, tenuous at best, link to politics.
Poor gore V. he's a snob without portfolio and hasn't written a decent books in decades.

Gore Vidal has been in a snit every since Monica Lewinsky got a mouthful of the bent one before he did. You never know what's going to come out of his mouth, or go into it.

There's that annoying inconsistency in Leftie arguments against going to war: 1) they claim Iraq has NO weapons of mass destruction so going to war is unnecessary BUT in the same breath they warn of dire consequences if we do to the effect 2) that Iraq is going to use all manner of WMD (which the Lefties claim at first blush Iraq doesn't possess) if its attacked and you wonder how they can hold two completely opposite arguments as Gore Vidal does here. There's a hole big enough to fly a 767 through not that they'd ever see it. Yup these are the same geniuses who just fled Baghdad when the heat got too hot for them. They're anti-war alright but not out of principle but out of spite for President Bush and most people have figured out there fraudulent anti-war opposition for what it is: a chance to score cheap points against America.

[TUCKER] CARLSON: Mr. Vidal, Mr. Turtleneck, I if can call you that, you just said a second ago in an indirect way that the patriot act was written before 9/11 but it's just a coincidence. But your implication is the federal government knew that 9/11 was going to happen. That's what you're implying why don't you just say it.
[GORE] VIDAL: If I thought it, could prove it, I would say it. I suspect it, but I don't really think it. We know nothing. You missed the point to my little book which was I was setting up some of the charges that could be brought against George W. Bush when he comes to be impeached by the House of Representatives. He swore on oath to preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United States. He swore that as all presidents do. Well the United States is we, the people and Congress assemble. We were not protected at 9/11. He was warned by everybody from Mossad to President Putin in advance. We have stacks of warnings that came in.
