MARION, IND. -- A man shot and wounded three men who had beaten and stabbed him while ransacking his home, police said.

The intruders _ one armed with a 7-inch pocketknife and another with a pool cue _ entered the rural home about 2 a.m. Thursday, attacking two adult residents and threatening a 14-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy.

This story would have had a very different outcome had the gauge been anything but .22

Guess his .22 must have been purchased before 94. Either that or he stopped to reload.

It's to bad that none of the perp's injuries were life threatening!

That's what you get for bringing a pool cue to a gunfight! Excellent job, Mr. Homeowner!

This is why I only have 9mm or stronger, and with 9mm only selected high-end JHP's.

Well, I do have 2 .223 rifles, but those sure aren't .22s :)

Never bring a knife or a pool stick to a gunfight

A .22 calibre bullet - very small, perhaps you've seen them at boy scout/girl scout/YMCA camp. 0.22 inches in diameter, not much gunpowder behind it. A .22 shot could kill you if it hit a vital organ, artery, brain, etc. but many times is survivable.

They all faced preliminary felony charges of burglary resulting in injury and robbery resulting in bodily injury.

Interesting, a man is stabbed with a 7 inch knife and the assailant isn't charged with attempted murder. I suppose if the man died of the knife wound, the charge would then be murder.

What's wrong with this picture?

Guess his .22 must have been purchased before 94.

Fixed, tubular magazines such as found in many .22LR rifles, are not limited to 10 rounds. Too bad it was a .22, though, and not a .223!

Lesson: Your home defense rifle is the one you can get to when your home needs defending.

Lesson: A .22 is much better than nothing at all.

Give this gentleman the credit he deserves: Even though already wounded, he nailed all three of the bastards, and their driver as well. Good shooting.

Too bad he couldn't get to something bigger than the .22, though.

Previous posters have not asked the most important question (in the eyes of the law): Did this man have a permit for his gun?

I'll admit ignorance. What's a .22? A pumpshotgun? A .22 almost always refers to a .22 caliber rimfire rifle. The .22 round is a pipsqueak that is mostly used for target practice, plinking, and maybe small varmint hunting.
