It would have been an interesting discussion provoker, to do that and immediately follow on to the aghast students with a remark like "well God didn't do that with us, did he? See John 3:16: 'For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.'" The point being that there is so much to the story that we DON'T have from here.
