I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Allegiance is what we pledge.
Allegiance: "Loyalty or the obligation of loyalty, as to a nation, sovereign, or cause."
Allegiance is not a form of worship. Go bark up some other tree.

What tripe.
An idol is something that is worshiped as a Creator or a Redeemer, something to which idolaters ascribe supernatural powers. If you worship an idol--in the Bible they tended to be some form of nature worship, e.g.: the sun, the Nile, sacred animals--you are substituting something else for Jehovah, or God. You aren't giving the Man upstairs His due props, to put it in the vernacular. Thus endeth Idolatry 101.
The flag is NOT an idol. It is a symbol of the greatest nation on God's green earth. We do NOT worship the flag, nor do we worship our country, because neither the flag nor the country created us nor can they redeem us.
But we do REVERE both the flag and the country, for the freedoms and liberty we enjoy here. We pledge allegiance to the country for which the flag stands, and there is certainly nothing unChristian in that. Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.

The whiff of ozone is in the air.
I suppose this whatever wants us to grovel at the flag of the United Nations instead, who shouts "xenophobia" as robotic as it shots "racist" and "homophobia".

I Pledge Allegiance -- By Red Skelton
I - - Me; an individual; a committee of one.
Pledge - - Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity.
Allegiance - - My love and my devotion.
To the Flag - - Our standard; Old Glory ; a symbol of Freedom; wherever she waves there is respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts, Freedom is everybody's job.
United - - That means that we have all come together.
States - - Individual communities that have united into forty-eight great states. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose. All divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that is love for country.
And to the Republic - - Republic--a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people; and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
For which it stands
One Nation - - One Nation--meaning, so blessed by God.
Indivisible - - Incapable of being divided.
With Liberty - - Which is Freedom; the right of power to live one's own life, without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.
And Justice - - The principle, or qualities, of dealing fairly with others.
For All - - For All--which means, boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine.
And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance: Under God. Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too?Red Skelton

Render unto Caeser, twit.
Romans 13:2
2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

I understand what you are saying. However, you are taking the cloth concept literally. People are meaning pledge to an idea, but they say cloth. Poor grammer or vocabulary, but they really mean pledge to an idea.
