Everybody may already be aware of this but Ilan Ramon, the Israeli astronaut that died in the shuttle crash was one of the Israeli pilots that bombed the Iraqi nuclear power facility in 1981.
He volunteered to be the rear pilot in the formation because he was the only single one in the attack group at the time, and that is the most dangerous position because of anti-aircraft missiles coming up from behind. A real life hero.
