A wave of B-52 bombers are set to hit Iraq within the hour, according to reports.
Eleven of the giant warplanes took off from RAF Fairford, in Gloucestershire shortly earlier.
The plane has been in service with the United States Air Force since 1955.
It established its fearful reputation with carpet bombing raids during the Vietnam War.
More recently, it has seen service in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Yugoslavia.

I'm wondering if the targets will be in Basrah rather than Baghdad.

Last night, my entire family had dinner out together (siblings, etc.) A major topic of conversation was "what do you think is the most musical war phrase/word?" the favorites were "carpet bombing" and "hellfire missiles".

I'm wondering if the targets will be in Basrah rather than Baghdad. I think we should be worried about what's hiding around Baghdad. Our troopers could be in for a world of hurt if Saddam has really constructed his "hirnet's nest" around the city. And it makes sense that he would have, he'll basically sacrifice the rest of the country to save his skin and delay the takeover of his capitol.

They'll fly across Israel and Jordan with a straight beeline for Baghdad.

Its hard to pinpoint your bombing run in a B-52. Here comes the civilian deaths.... damn I thought they would have surrendered by now...
