We've also heard reports that the 3rd Infantry Division has hit resistence at the Euphrates River -- these could be some serious ground support there too.

We are trying to get the Republican Guard to surrender. It is in our interest to let them know the planes are on the way and they have a window of opportunity to remain alive.
There's a limit to what we can do, however. Seventh Cav will be approaching the Baghdad defensive line within about 24 to 36 hours. Combined arms theory holds that it would be a neat idea to pulverize the Republican Guard outer ring before our lead elements get there. You want to stage a demonstration using the Nebuchadnezzar and the Saladin divisions so that the other RG's will know that the jig is up.

Foxnews update: B52's left 8:00 am est, destination unknown, could be withdrawn, or, pre-positioned elsewhere, or strike. OK, that's their latest report.

Sounds like more "softening?"

I put my head down three hours ago: at that time, CNN's feed from the Seventh Cav was still showing nothing in front of Third Squadron. I don't think that the lead elements have run into resistance.
Planes taking off from DOHA right now, fully loaded. Methinks they're all going for the Outer defensive ring.

I caught something on CNN to the effect that the advance has been stopped while resistance that was met was probed at the Euphrates. It was about an hour and a half ago that was stated. Haven't heard anything further in the way of reports since then. Even so, they probably don't need the kind of weapons that B-52's bring for that kind of support -- there are plenty of carriers in range that far south.
