Thursday, we took a call from Jill in Minneapolis, who wanted to know why Hillary Clinton, in her view, is being quiet and playing it safe right now. Jill thought she may have an eye toward running for President in 2004, not 2008.
I don't think there's any news in Hillary running in '08. I think the odds are that Hillary and her people think that Bush is going to be re-elected and not be all that vulnerable in '04. The other Democrats think that Bush is going to follow in the footsteps of his dad and be extremely vulnerable on postwar polls and an economy that remains stagnant. They're trying to re-live and re-create the history of 1992 and that whole campaign. Hillary is probably fashioning herself for '08, but I wouldn't put it past her establishing circumstances where she could slither into the '04 race. If Bush ends up being weak, she could make herself as a viable alternative to all these Democrats who are making utter fools of themselves now on the war.
She's not actually being quiet, though. We have a couple of sound bites, which you can hear below, of Mrs. Clinton screeching on the Senate floor about the cost of the war. I just can't remember when these people have been so worried about expenses. They don't worry about any program's expense except when it comes to defense, and then they look at it with a microscope.
It's clear here that she's been given a leadership post in the Senate. She is becoming one of their lead strategists, one of their lead spokesmen, and she's not being all that quiet. But you shouldn't be afraid of Mrs. Clinton. The Clinton years are over and nobody wants to go back. The more we see of both Clintons, the worse off the Democratic Party will be. So, don't sweat it, folks - be cool out there.
DELIVER US FROM THIS BWITCH!
He will. He will.
I think I made the test too simple...
I think Rush is the greatest, but he actually went so far as to say he thought she wouldn't even *run* for Senator.
