[history]
Defense and intelligence agencies have formed a special unit that will go into Iraq to search for Capt. Michael Scott Speicher, a missing U.S. Navy pilot believed to have been held captive in Iraq since 1991.
Creating the special unit comes as U.S. intelligence agencies reported last week that an American pilot believed to be Capt. Speicher was spotted alive in Baghdad earlier this month.

I hope we find him. I'm worried Saddam kept him somewhere he knew the Allies would attack.

Pray...and for his wife, who is now re-married, wow welcome home. Course after being in saddam's prison for 12 years, i can't imagine what his mental state is going to be like. Angry at his country, that's for sure!!!

He was nearly forgotten by two administrations. Kudos to whoever it was late in the Clinton Administration who reclassified his status. And if something was done to him in recent days then those responsible should be treated as war criminals.

Bad Engrish.

I believe it was this administration that changed his status, But in any case, I sure hope we can bring him home

SevenofNineDoes that indicate you are talking about your FAVOURITE seventh wife among your NINE???
While, outside of the Mountain West, Polygamy [actually Parallel Polygamy] is frowned upon, most of the country has adopted the ORTHODOX Catholic position of FOUR wives, SERIALLY!!!
I guess we REALLY DO have something in Common with the Islamofascists!
ROFLMAO!!

Are we talking about the same Scott Speicher who has been a POW since Gulf War I, twelve years ago?
That's Twelve Years, as in the FINAL YEAR of Bush-41, the first THREE years of Bush-43, and the EIGHT MISERABLE, WASTED YEARS OF SLICK WILLIE CLINTON IN BETWEEN????? CLINTON COULDN'T CARE LESS ABOUT FINDING OR RESCUING SPEICHER BECAUSE HE WAS TOO BUSY GETTING HUMMERS UNDER THE DESK OF THE OVAL OFFICE!
One Bush sent the courageous young man in. It takes some time to assess that he was even there, but once that assessment was made (after Bush-41 was gone in 1992), something should have been done. Now, under Bush-43, it looks as though it will.

I believe it was this administration that changed his statusFirst change was late in the Clinton Administration, then another "upgrade" under Bush II. If Bush I's people had pushed earlier he would have been home the last 12 years. If Clinton's people pushed . . . well, you get the picture. The important thing is that he became a priority a few years back and remains one.
To: Pokey78
I hope they find him but I fear that he will "disappear" without any traces left behind. Too much liability for the creeps that kept him. May he rest in peace with the appreciation of a grateful nation.

They should begin their search by examining the living entrails of any Iraqi official who was alive at that time, beginning with Saddam.

Skybird,
It's not in the interest of anyone in power in Iraq for an American flight crewmember to be found alive after all these years. I truly hope he knew at his final moment that there were many people at home that appreciated his service and loved him and that his family would be cared for. May God comfort his soul.

Although I dislike your choice of words, I also am of the opinion that direct action is desirable to rescue Captain Speicher.
