Why not just kill them?
The Russians did not hesitate to kill American volunteers who found there way into Afghan fighter groups in the 1980s. Why should we play pussyfoot with their technicians who have assumed combatant roles?
I don't say this out of hatred for Russians, but there's nothing bloodthirsty about wanting to see battlefield threats to our troops terminated.

Disclaimer: I hope these stories about Russia are not true and I hope for greater warmth in Russo-U.S. relations.

I believe the stories are true; what makes you think they aren't? It boils down to who you are going to believe our government or the Russian government. Over time and especially with the current administration I pick our government.

Kill them? Just wait till these guys go to a foreign air show or arms bazar. A team will probably pick him up.
