NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--U.S. officials said Monday that no chemical weapons were found at a suspected site at Najaf in central Iraq, U.S. television networks reported.
NBC News reported from the Pentagon that no chemicals at all were found at the site. CNN, also reporting from the Pentagon, said officials now believe the plant there was abandoned long ago by the Iraqis.

So, why did they guard it and booby-trap it?

Why is a General stationed at an abandonded and camoflouged plant with electrified fences, booby trapped doors and a detachment of troops?

I smell disinformation.
There's something else going on.
This was booby trapped and one of our troops was injured.
You don't do that to something that was "abandoned".

CNN, also reporting from the Pentagon, said officials now believe the plant there was abandoned long ago by the Iraqis. That's why it was guarded by Iraqi troops and a General.

Hmmm..guess the evil CIA didn't follow through with their plan to "plant" WMDs and frame the innocent Iraqi regime. Think the lefties will give them any credit for being honest???

We need to keep the chemical weapon discoveries vague or silent until either the Iraqis use them first of the war is over.
Because once the Iraqis have been caught with them, they'll have little reason not to employ them in the field.

We must destroy the regime first while in the meantime keeping WMD discoveries on the downlow.
Otherwise, Iraq loses the war of "propaganda" and start using them.
Thats my guess.

As I noted in an earlier thread, it's perfectly plausible that those military personnel moved into the neighboring industrial site simply because they feared air strikes on their usual barracks location...

You are ASSUMING that there was a general there, that it was camoflaged, that the fences were electrified, that it was booby trapped, and that there was a detachment of troops there.
All or some of those above assumptions may be wrong. Basic facts in breaking stories often turn out to be wrong. And the fact that you WANT to believe them doesn't change that.

We must destroy the regime first while in the meantime keeping WMD discoveries on the downlow.I think that's BS. We would broadcast any finds of prohibited weapons as loudly and widely as humanly possible...

Why? After the war is over, we have plenty of time to expose our case. Right now, Iraq POWs might have indicated any confirmed announcement that we found Chem plants or other WMD, they will unleash it in a futile attempt to strike down as many soldiers as a martyr type thing.

Actually, it's been reported now that the facility was known to have been abandoned many years ago. To reiterate my previous comments once again, it's perfectly plausible that those military personnel moved into the neighboring industrial site because they feared air strikes in their usual barracks location...

I fear that we are going to find evidence of chemical weapons the same way we've been finding evidence of Iraqi SCUDs as we get closer to Baghdad. I can only hope and pray that the loss of life is minimal.
