And when will the mainstream media start doing their job, instead of rationalizing or covering up racism and violence, when it is carried out by members of protected groups? An AP story Sunday on the Akbar/Cools case was perversely titled, "Sgt. Held in Attack Feared Persecution," and pandered to the suspect and his mother's spin, …

Do you think a Christian would've had the same media response had he committed such an atrocious crime?

Good article, by the way.

No, of course not. We would have seen 500 TV reports on "fundamentalism's nexus of hate," and read another 3,000 articles on the same topic. (Source of the allusion: in the month following the murder of Matthew Shepard, 3,007 articles appeared about it, according to William McGowan in Coloring the News: How Crusading for diversity Has Corrupted American journalism. In the month following the murder of Jesse Dirkhising, however, only 46 stories appeared.)

Every story would have emphasized the Christian killer's religious background, and cast aspersions on all Evangelicals.

BTW, it's good to be hearing from you again, Ma'am.
