No More Smoking In N.Y. Businesses

State Law Tougher Than Upcoming NYC Law

Posted: 3:13 p.m. EST March 27, 2003

ALBANY, N.Y. -- New York has joined California and Delaware as the only states to ban smoking in virtually all businesses.

Legislation signed by Gov. George Pataki ends smoking in most places that had still allowed it -- bars, certain restaurants, betting parlors, bowling alleys, pool halls and even in company cars.

Exemptions include private residences, personal cars, Indian casinos and New York City cigar bars already registered.

The statewide measure is even tougher than a separate smoking ban due to go into effect in New York City. That measure allows smoking rooms in restaurants and bars equipped with special ventilation.

The law sets a $1,000 penalty for violations.

Do they mean Native American Casinos or Asian Indian ones?

There are only 57 real Republicans in New York and I believe they are all related to ME.

BTW...I paid a visit to my very own RINO State Senator (Flanagan's his name) yesterday. His receptionist told me he was "in a very important meeting." "Fine," I said, "Have him call me this afternoon. Or, if you like, I can come back later." She said she'd tell him I stopped by.

Well...it's 30 hours later, and I still haven't heard from the worm. He's probably busy giving Joe Bruno or Geo. Pataki a hand job. So, on Monday morning at 9:00 I will go back to his office & stay there till he can find time to make ME one of his "important meetings."

I'll tell you this, though: He ain't gunna think much of my sunny morning disposition on Monday.

Regards,

If RJR and the other cigarette companies had any balls, they'd announce that it was just too expensive to do business in New York, California and any other state with these fascist smoking laws, and announce no more cigarette shipments to those states. *POOF* go tax receipts.

These states don't REALLY want smokers to quit, too much revenue is at stake. Pataki will find this out come budget time next year. Draconian, idiotic laws like this make criminals out of the common citizenry, just as Prohibition did, which always results in a breakdown in respect (if there's any shred of it left) for law in general.

God help us poor boobs out in flyover country. This kind of stupidity is headed our way too. Smoke 'em while you've got 'em.

Unfortunately, RJR and the other tobacco companies cannot do what you suggest. It is ILLEGAL for them to stop selling cigarettes in any state that participated in the Master Settlement Agreement.

Pretty nice, huh?

I HATE NEW YORK.

Even though Balboni was absent from the vote, he doesn't get a pass; he was a co-sponsor.

I used to see Balboni at the local bagel shop (where I used to live)& thought he was a nice guy. I was wrong. He is a boob, too.

Yeah I know Balboni was in on it. I remember he was part of the corrupt Nassau County Tammity Hall Gullotta years.

So the Republican count was 38-0.

I just can't belive the upstate senators who are usually the only voices of sanity all brought into this crap. I am going to let my senator (Little) hear from me big time (My assembly member voted against it).

This bill if it's not overturned means doom for us. My area depends almost entirely on tourist which a large percentage comes down from Quebec and we all know how the French like to smoke, Well they will be going to Vermont now (Yeah they have a smoking ban but it is weak) and during winters there are few tourist and everybody just eeks out a living and going to restaurants/bars is a luxary, People aren't going to take not being able to smoke and are just going to choose to stay home.

THis is just unbelievable, I am still in shock, I had an accident last weekend while hiking and I broke my nose badly and I been taking painkillers and I am really hoping that all this is just a drug induced nightmare.
