Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

4-6 delay in the advancement by our troops on Baghdad. Bombing will continue, but we won't inch closer. Time to regroup big time.

Is that 4-6 days from now... or.. have we already paused 4 days already? We were 50 miles from Bagdad 72 hours ago as you may recall.

Im assuming they are going to get to a 15-20 mile ring arounf baghdad, group together, get some rest, bring in some more troops; all while bombing the RG to make the battle easier

FNC, commanders have predered a 4-6 pause on forward action??? Why would they do that? Are our guys going to sit in the freaking desert for SIX days?!?!?!?

Smart Move. Allows more troops to get in theatre and solidify supply lines and get the 4th ID in country. Still get to bomb the crap out of RG and Baghdad.

I bet this will give all the people in Baghdad time to get out, time for us to get all the huge wazoo weapons lined up and then Saddam is a dustball.

This is curious. Maybe? Maybe pause for 2 days while the Iraquis think 4? And in the mantime we still bomb the hell out of them?
To: BulletBobCo
More than likely 2 to 3 days.

I am with you on this if it is true why publish it, keep the Iraqis on their toes and worried, while our troops get some rest and resupplied etc...just like the media asking for a timetable you never let the other side know your timetable unless it is disinformation..if the brass caved because of media pressure and gave this info out I would be very disappointed..
To: Ramius
I guess there is no hurry, I am just thinking of the field day the news will have with this....so, you DID underestimate your oppostion, so you have made huge blunders.
If our guys were prepared for that, OK, but wouldn't that cause a moral issue, to doubt your leaders?

I don't think so. We're really in a pause already and have been since Monday. We don't need to engage the RG until we've bombed the crap out of them and until our troops and supply lines have caught up. Better slow and sure than go in half-a$$ed. Shows good judgment by commanders by reacting to conditions rather than political pressure to hurry it up.

hmmm... maybe the 3ID is not the attacking force... They are a pinning forcce, they will sit in place while something else drives the republican gaurd to them......
To: Fledermaus; Ramius
Also, remember that WE have the free supply lines and the enemy has no way to re-arm and get new gas.
New ckt cards that burn out and new tank treads, and new truck tires, and batteries for their IR devices and night cvision goggles and batteries for the short-range missiles. They don't have MRE's (fortunately?) or resupply convoys for the field units, and so THEIR guys are sitting and freezing in the dark.

FNC -- says more air to soften up while food and diesel and troops catch up!

HERE IS THE REAL REASON FOR THE 4-6 DAY DELAY. Per Donald Rumsfeld, it will take that long to get all those whiney reporters to the front line. No kevlar for the big babies. Exception is bag for Helen's head.
