House GOP revives Alaska drilling hopes

WASHINGTON - The House is moving swiftly to enact energy legislation, hoping to revive a proposal for oil drilling in an Alaska wildlife refuge and, in a boon to farmers, expand the use of ethanol as a gasoline additive.

Both provisions were included Wednesday as separate committees crafted key parts of the energy legislation. Lawmakers said they expected an energy bill to be voted on by the full House, possibly as early as next week.

I just got a telephone call from an environmental activist asking me to ask my congressman to vote no on the proposal for oil drilling in Alaska. The activist told me that drilling in Alaska would destroy the environment and that the oil would not even get to the lower 48 for ten years (she said with the breathless enthusiasm of her convictions). I let her rant on for awhile then I stopped her and thanked her so much for the phone call. I told this environmental activist that I had no idea that this item was coming up for a vote but now that, thanks to her call, I do know about it, I'm going to contact my rep and ask him to vote to drill Alaska. I was having fun with her and I told her that I thought drilling Alaska was a fabulous idea! She hung up on me.....

Seems we should be using our valuable land to grow crops for food. Of course we could have imported ethanol from So. America but the DOLES made that impossible. Since Libby was then on the board of ADM & importation was cheaper than ours she got her "let's do deal" husband to get a tax on its importation thus making it unprofitable. But that's OK here because they have a (R) behind their names.
