O Fers, Batting Zero and Coaching Others for Success
My own thoughts | 03/03/2003 | DoughtyOne

It would be easy for the Citizens of the United States to fall in behind our current President, thanking him for liberating the Iraqi people.  In fact many have done so. None the less, some of our citizens have turned out to be more complex than this.  Not satisfied to accept the obvious and offer up a hearty "well done", they spend their time soul searching.  They are searching for just the right way to react to what has turned out to be an exhibition of Bush, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell, Myers' brilliance and execution.

In what seems like a lifetime to these people, but was in reality only a couple of weeks ago, they were calling for Bush's head because he hadn't removed an Iraqi genocidal maniac though diplomacy.  He was backing up his ultimatum to Saddam Hussein to abandon WMDs or expect war.  A number of them went so far as to call for regime change in this nation, not Iraq.  Retiring the tactic of openly opposing the war, these folks watched in horror as coalition forces stormed across the Kuwait/Iraqi border, destination Baghdad.  They then fell in line, begrudgingly snarling just beneath the visible surface.

Since that time we have seen these people warn our leaders of a number of dire consequences.  Coalition casualties were going to be high.  When it was realized that almost no casualties would be realized, they warned that Iraqi nationals would fight us and hate us.  When Iraqis blew us kisses and cried at the sight of us, they warned that this would be another Vietnam.  When we advanced two hundred miles in five days they announced that we had gone too far too fast, we needed to take a pause.  When that didn't play out, they stated that the war plan was flawed, we needed a new one.  They even announced that military planers had argued with Rumsfeld and lost, him sending them to battle with far too few troops and resources.  When the generals who made the war plans stated this was untrue, that the plan was working brilliantly, and that victory was assured, they warned that it would take decades to undo the hatred we were instilling in the Iraqi people.  Then the Iraqi people gave us intel.  Some of it allowed us to rescue one of our dearest assets, Private First Class Jessica Lynch.

Not content with these gambits, these naysayers constantly dwelled on any negatives they could find, even if they had to make them up.  Iraqi citizens were being hurt, our troops didn't have food or water, supply lines couldn't keep up.  Iraqi infrastructure, individuals, families, historical artifacts, culture, ability to grow food, you name it was being harmed by the coalition attacking Iraq.  "Liberation" did not appear in their lexicon.  Only destruction, death, harm, hatred, did.  Iraqis waving, crying, thanking us, bowing at our feet did nothing to lessen their disinformation.

After all this you'd think these constant naysayers/chatterers would realize that they were woefully uninformed regarding these issues.  But no, that didn't happen.  In the face of a zero batting average, they now intend to tell our leaders how to win the peace after victory.

This group of people was made up of Democrats, Liberals, Socialists, Marxists, Progressives, war protesters, a majority of the print/radio/television journalists, the international diplomatic community, including the leadership of the United Nations and a number of foreign nations around the world.  This seemingly diverse group, was less diverse than it seems.  For when it comes to wholesome values and goals for the United States, these people to a one disagree about what makes this nation great.  Oh they don't disagree with each other, they disagree with our founding fathers, with our form of government, with our successes, with the population mix, with our Christian values, with our military prowess, with our plans for the future, in short everything that makes us who and what we are.

These people hate our past, they hate everything we are as a nation, they hate that our plans are to remain a constitutional republic.  They refer to this as a democracy at every opportunity, want to change our national anthem, want God entirely removed from our society and seek to remold this nation into a socialist worker's paradise that is nothing like what it is today, in any way.  That's why they think Fidel Castro is one of the world's most charming rulers, that Kofi Annan is a superb global ruler and that Saddam Hussein wasn't all that bad.

And that's why they, their opinions, their goals, their heroes, their ideologies and plans for the future have nothing to do with what we should be incorporating into the fabric that will be the future of this nation or any other.

Batting zero percent doesn't qualify someone to become the next batting coach for the home team.

One would think that these folks would be in awe of our President and his team.  One would think that they would thank him and await his decision on how to win the peace.  One would think that they would be content, happy that things operated like a well oiled machine, brilliantly, the best devised military campaign in world history.  Well they aren't.  They will never be happy until the nation our founding fathers devised for us, the one that gave us a constitutional republic and the best standard of living the world has ever seen, is placed in subservience to something else, anything else.

May they be damned to live with the national/global disgrace they have brought upon themselves, never to be trusted or listened to again.
