US: 2,500 REPUBLICAN GUARDS SURRENDER

Around 2,500 of Saddam Hussein's elite Republican Guard soldiers have surrendered, US officials say.

The officials say US Marines are now advancing on Baghdad from Kut.

They said the Iraqi soldiers who surrendered were from the Baghdad division the Republican Guard.

-MORE-

"Just last night there was a (military field) report of about 2,500 soldiers of the Baghdad division surrendering, stripping off their uniforms," Captain Frank Thorp told Reuters at Central Command war headquarters in Qatar.

He also said that Marines advancing on Baghdad from the city of Kut, about 105 miles southeast of the capital, were close to the city.

"The Marines from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force...are in the vicinity of Baghdad now," Thorp said.

Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division meanwhile say they are in control of the Saddam International airport, 12 miles from the city centre. Last Updated: 12:55 UK, Friday April 04, 2003

This is the division that had a couple of Daisy Cutters dropped on them. I guess the other 75% of the division are enjoying their 72 virgins.

They need to stop surrendering and give our Generals time to recalibrate our failed military strategy.

Maureen Dowd needs to sign off on the next plan to make sure the Generals get it right this time.

I'm actually deeply saddened to see this war is going so badly for us.

Dashle and Hillary:

What did the President know about the possibility of 2,500 surrendering Republican Guards and when did he know it?

Notice only "Republican" Guards are surrendering. Thank God for the "Democratic" Guards who keep fighting this war against the "Selected" President of this evil regime.

I am deeply saddened about our own evil regime. But I'm delighted that Kerry will change all that.
