You left out JBL, which is my own personal fave. Of course, we have the luxury of having room for four large 312's, a PB-12 sub and a center speaker. But I think maybe a HTIB might be right for someone who HAS to have physically-small speakers. The sub that comes with them will make up for the smallish speakers.

"Our Bose Wave Radio is the coolest piece of small electronics in the house - stellar clear sound, excellent reception."

I understand that the Wavy Radio is the ONLY halfway-decent product they make. But given the price...damn, that's a lot of dough to spend on a clock radio.

You have just demonstrated your stupidity. (Here's a clue -- go do some research in human factors. That branch of engineering researches what makes things easy to use.) I'm interested in computers that are easy to use. Your inclusion of Al Gore is also quite funny, because prior to a few months ago, my Apple purchase would not have benefitted him. (As though Al Gore is responsible for UI design.) You also failed to answer the question. Finally, I'll say this -- for most things you can do it cheaper (only if you count up-front cost, and not the cost of your time). But that sort of thinking implicitly assumes your time is worth nothing, which based on your response, I'd have to agree.

"Proprietary software" -- yet you yourself run proprietary software when you run Windows. OS/X is at least built on an open-source core. Keep trying.

Bose made their name in the live music world during the early '70's transition away from the heavy, muddy, awkward to carry, Shure Vocalmaster system w/ those Tower speakers.

Bose came out with that advertisement showing a guy carrying a couple of their (small) 901's comfortably in each hand.

What they never told you about was the 'fork-lift' filled with power amps that it took to make their speakers sound like anything. And of course the Bose system cost almost twice as much.

I've got a Dell and a Mac G4...the Mac G4 is CLEARLY superior to the PC, and the OSX operating system, based on the Unix kernel, is far superior to Windows XP.

Opinions are like elbows...most everyone has at least one. Be happy in your work. The BOSE site is full of testimonials, too.

You left out JBL

JBL was bought out by the Harman Group (Sidney Harman...BIG TIME liberal and Clinton Supporter) who also distribute Infinity and many. many other brands.

JBL is like General Motors. A huge, line up of speakers at every price and performance imaginable.

Some of the very best in the world, and some absolute junk that they simply re-label from the Orient.

Just because it says "JBL", doesn't mean its the real JBL.

Caveat Emptor.

Just reproved my theory that the only cult whose members have less of a sense of humor than cat-lovers, are MAC-heads....Hahahahahaaaa. Go do some research in market share...

Thanks......we are no longer the silent majority.

Maybe someone could check out the story that American flags can't be flown on vehicles in Iraq - because we are a army of liberation = not conquest.

I have posted it a few times here and no one seems to care. Guess it is a matter of 'picking your battles'. That is much more egregious than private employer deciding what he/she will do in his own store - however misguided it might be.

just called them, sounded like they have gotten plenty of calls, and are issueing a statement
that it is not their policy, and they are very upset about it
I told them the manager who did this should be fired.

O please! How can you compare a PC to a MAC when it comes to proprietry. Be realistic. The only thing that a Mac is good for is graphic work. With the power of PCs these days, that is not that important anymore. If MAC does not run Windows or Linux soon, it will die.

>> so as not to offend customers <<

I'm now offically offended. Never have and never will buy any of their products.

AND IF THE US FLAG OFFENDS ANYONE...LEAVE! WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE. We have another freedom in this country, the freedom to leave.

I heard the commercials where someone says "Oh, there's a live band" only to find it's a wave radio. I went into the store in Osage Beach with that in mind. I was disappointed. Sure, the stereo is thousands of times better than the $39 made in china stuff you can buy at the discount store, but at hundreds of dollars, there are plenty of stereos just as good at a cheaper price.

Our Wave Radio was a Christmas gift - and at that price, you just can't beat it. :)

I should have given you some background. I spent many many years in the professional recording business, and all of those years involved mixing on almost exclusively JBL speakers. It's a reference sound for my ears. And the JBL system I have (fairly high end) lives up to what my ears expect. Our receiver is an Onkyo, which is a fine piece of gear, too.

JBL is certainly not the ne plus ultra these days - but it fits me since I'm so used to the sound. If you'll recall, JBL was part of the original THX spec.

Yep....I remember the $35,000 THX rig.
As I said, there is still a real JBL out there.....
And some other stuff with just their name glued on.

Can't be accurate, because I've seen Bradleys flying the Stars and Stripes.
