(AP) Elizabeth Smart's family has hired a Los Angeles entertainment attorney to help them screen movie and book proposals about Elizabeth's abduction and remarkable return.

Kelly Crabb, who reportedly has negotiated contracts for Paul McCartney, Dave Matthews and Muhammad Ali, was hired a week ago, said Chris Thomas, the family's spokesman.

According to his firm's Web site, Crabb's areas of practice include motion picture, television and other programming production and financing; composer agreements, personal appearances and motion picture distribution.

"These kind of contracts are very specialized," Thomas said.

Crabb received bachelor's and master's degrees from Brigham Young University before earning a law degree from Columbia University in 1984. He also worked for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.

Elizabeth, now 15, was abducted from her bedroom on the night of June 5. On March 12, she was found in a Salt Lake suburb with her alleged kidnappers.

I'm not asking you to agree with me, only to look at what has been a very complicated case - or at least to allow me that privilege. There are discrepancies all over the place.

But if you don't see them, o.k. Fine!

lololol....The Khaki Pants of Freedom???

I have an unhealthy obsession with tan pants. Don't ask. ;-)

I think it sums me up pretty well, though. Hehe.

"sloppy" was a poor choice of words. Thanks for your thoughts.

You never have to thank me for my thoughts, although sometimes I may have to apologize for them. :-)

As for sloppy policework -- well, it wasn't a bad choice of words. I know people in LE, and, as good as American LE is in general, they're only human, and they screw up. And they most often screw up by being lazy or sloppy. It happens. They know it, and do their best to stamp it out, but its a persistent part of the human condition in general, and it'll always be there. I could be right in my belief this is a runaway and they downgraded it; I could be right that it was a runaway and wrong about the downgrading part, very easily indeed. If I was a betting man, I'd say the odds are even on sloppy versus very smart and controlled.

Wait, I *am* a betting man. "The odds are even". :-)

At least the trial should put a hold on any Hollywood movie of the story. I hope that the courtroom will be closed to the public.

Overall, in general, I'm not criticizing LE. But SLCPD is another story.

There's a funny comment on Google about Utah LE. One poster says, "They've got pretty good police around here - we've had everything from Ted Bundy to the Unabomber to Mark Hofmann's bombs."

Reply by Dennis: "Oh yeah, and they didn't catch the Unabomber in Utah, and they let Bundy escape." LOL

SLCPD initially gave their own investigators worthless information for their searches: The English-driving, tan golf-style hat vs a white baseball cap. A small black pistol vs a knife.

And they came up with ex-con Ricci as a possible suspect, a man who was 6 foot 1 inches tall, although the only witness, Mary Katherine, said the perp was about 5 foot 8.

So, yes, Kip Lange, I do think "sloppy" is an inappropriate word. Your "very smart and controlled" may be a more accurate description of what went on.

One then asks, "Why?" And WHO orchestrated it?

Gee, no one came in & corrected my post - tan golf hat to white baseball cap.

They're slipping.

Hi, lakey,

Too many loose ends to this story. It'll be awhile before we can put this baby to bed.

ROFL at Utah's very poor performance in other hi-profile case....Bundy, Hoffman, etc.

Things will change when the indigenous population gets outnumbered by others. Right now, the only prospective group to do that is Mexicans.

I SAW ELIZABETH'S STALKER - BUT THE COPS WOULDN'T LISTEN

According to this article, in the NE July 16, 2002 issue, a man by the name of Corey Dennis described a "suspicious looking 50-year-old guy with a grayish beard and wearing a gray jogging suit" lingering right in front of the Smarts' home on May 31, 2002.

After Elizabeth's disappearance, Dennis called the police 3 times & his mother-in-law called once. No one called them back or came to interview him about what he had seen that day.

On this, we have to give LE some slack. There were literally hundreds, if not thousands, of calls. LE cannot be expected to handle every call as a follow-up. And they did eventually call Mr. Dennis after Ed Smart revealed the composite sketch to media of Brian Mitchell, aka Emmanuel, in early February. (I'm having some trouble with the date - I thought someone posted that it was first shown in December on the John Walsh Show.)

Obvious question: Why didn't Dennis contact Ed? Answer: Physical contact may not have been possible. But he could have gone through the mails or Internet, chancing that his message would be overlooked or viewed suspiciously as that from a weirdo ... even though Ed didn't seem to think another e-mail (the "lost" one) was "far-out."

No doubt Mr. Dennis is looking for a part of the reward money. If he is denied anything, I hope he raises the roof!

I think in this article it said Ed was talking to the man in the jogging outfit. It said Ed and the man in the jogging outfit were arguing and Ed asked Corey, who had come to do air conditioning work, to leave for a while. Ed later called and told Corey it was OK to come back. The man in the jogging outfit was heavy set, not skinney like old Emanuel. This article is hogwash.

Annoying, NE is very annoying, if what you say is true, & I presume it is the truth. This article, though, describes Dennis as a SLC "construction worker," not air conditioning installer/maintenance.

Doesn't seem to matter whether or not it's a flakey tabloid or a "respected" newspaper, it's all one giant flim-flam.

This was a simple runaway-kid story from the beginning

Maybe the family is looking to control the movie when it comes out, so some a$$hole like you does not change the story and claim that Elizabeth ran away with a child molester while chaining herself to a tree for two months.

Illbay, it's the same crowd...the WESTERFIED is innocent crowd. Don't even try to get any logic, reason or even common sense displayed from them.

IF Free Republic were around during the Simpson murder, the same people would have claimed that Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Brown cut off their own heads to frame OJ.

I really doubt that you would call me that to my face, you moron. And you didn't bother to post any facts- just name-calling. So I think you can be ignored.

Go play in traffic.
