I think the Latino backlash against Pete Wilson was overexaggerated. Even though Latinos make up 32% of CA, they have low voter participation rates. In the 2000 Presidential election, Latinos comprised only 14% of the CA electorate. This is despite heavy get-out the vote efforts by the RATS. Most Hispanics who come to America aren't interested in American citizenship. They just want to make money, so they can send cash back to their relatives in Mexico. Latino families also want their children to obtain a quality education in America in the hope that their kids will gain vital skills & knowledge to build up Mexico's economy. I predict the Latino immigrants sneaking across our borders now, will return to Mexico to retire in 30-40 years. Latino immigrants may live in the USA, but their hearts are in Mexico.

A perfect parallel would be African-Americans. Several blacks moved to the North to find employment and freedom during the early 20th Century. Today, these same blacks are moving back to the South to retire. Blacks whom I have worked with, often spoke fondly of the South. They longed for the simple, small town rural life they experienced when they were kids. In fact, black college graduates from the Midwest and West Coast are moving to Atlanta to achieve the American Dream.

I think the real reason for the CA GOP's collapse would be too mant white Marxists moving to Kalifornica and too many conservative Californians seeking refuge in Colorado Springs & Dallas.

I wish I could agree, but that backlash was there and still remains present (just leave it to a liberal Republican to get the whole damn party painted with some "right-wing racist" brush). The effect of it even seeped down to the "sucker moms" of the Caucasian variety. Two groups we've got to work on moving back to us in order to get the statewide wins again.

That's the thing, we don't really know what they're intending to do. I think perhaps the elders would consider returning back to Mexico or whatever Central or South American country of origin, but their children (born here) are going to be politically aware and voting and will not likely have any interest in returning to what (to them) would be a foreign country. The question is whether we can get those kids to the GOP side. If we don't, we're going to have a serious problem, nevermind California, but nationwide (losing elections based on demographics alone). If the 'Rats are successful in turning Hispanics into voting like Blacks, we will be screwed, and so will the country.

The outmigration of Republicans started in the late '50s when some formerly longtime GOP seats permanently turned 'Rat (starting with the Oakland-Berkeley seat, and then spreading all over the San Francisco area, then L.A.). The last Republican Congressman from Berkeley fled to Idaho.
