Would Journalists have “embedded” Themselves in Hitler’s Bunker in 1945?

It is very obvious that the regime of Iraq will use journalists as human shields, and use the occupancy or housing of journalists in the same way they use mosques, schools and hospitals, in the same manner the regime uses their own citizens. Would this be a surprise to these journalists? They did not, do not, expect that?

Obviously, they must not be covering the war at all if this is a surprise to them.

And so, what are they doing there, in a building with the Iraqi Information Minister? Why do they stay there at all? Doesn’t it occur to them, that instead of locating themselves in the buildings under the control of, and in use by, Iraqi government officials, they should relocate their journalistic operations to buildings under the protection of the coalition forces?

I mean, it became pretty obvious after the battles approaching the airport and subsequent terrorist actions by foreign Islamic groups using villagers and metropolitan non-combatants as human shields, that perhaps the journalists should consider relocating – perhaps putting basic operations at the airport for example. Or, they can remain as embedded with coalition forces on the ground - that is one method.

But war is tough, dangerous, so if they want a nice hotel bed and breakfast and call themselves “war journalists”, then perhaps they should find themselves a new job, perhaps covering soccer events or school bake sales instead. Actually, the soccer events may be too violent for them. If they want to remain in a hotel with the benefits of bed and breakfast, a hotel which is an operations center for the Iraqi regime, then perhaps they should fully expect to be used as shields, to perhaps be killed.

Very soon, the same Iraqi regime will not only use these journalists as human shields, and their housing as operations for terrorist snipers and for stock piling dangerous weapons, it will not be very long before the regime’s policy of controlling their own folk through fear will also be used upon these journalists. They will use fear to manipulate these journalists, to control them, because as the regime loses control of their own people, the “Information Ministry” will actually in a sense see these journalists as “their people” which require “their protection” – the journalists being the regime’s last hold-outs in providing at least some limited support regarding the propaganda campaign of the Iraqi government. In the like manner, if these same journalists, “their people”, do not do an effective enough job in the propaganda campaign, they will be arrested. In the like manner as they do to their own citizens, kidnapping them, murdering them, because they “love them so much” they don’t want to see them stray from the “cause”, they will very soon start doing the same to their new “constituency”, these journalists.

They love these journalists so much, that they will very soon start kidnapping them, taking them as hostages, murdering them, so that they will not stray from the cause. I guess, these journalists think perhaps the Iraqis won’t do this to them?

Well, I suppose some of these same journalists would have loved to have been “embedded” in the bunker of Chancellor Hitler in 1945, covering the last days and hours of the National Socialist German Workers Party, thinking their journalist credentials would have saved them from a Russian bomb. And, I guess these journalist would have died – probably they would have been handed a cyanide tablet by the Chancellor’s Propaganda Minister. And, it would have been quite an insult to the German government, if the journalists embedded in the bunker of Chancellor Hitler didn’t eagerly swallow the tablet.

Really. They have no excuse at this point. They are just a short stroll with a T-shirt from covering the same action in relative safety.

I enjoyed the Pentagon briefing this morning. Victoria Clark did NOT apologize.

She stated the facts. Let the reporters make the judgement, as to whether they wish to be in a hotel, with enemy snipers firing rounds at coalition tanks.

Rules of engagement permit the tank to return fire. They did.

Civilians were previously warned of the danger of being there.

I personally feel sorry for the dead reporters and their families. But they were (collectively and individually) very stupid to be in the building, once the coalition men and equipment arrived.

They were even MORE stupid, to remain in the building, when enemy snipers used the facility for hostile purposes.

The Iraqi combatants intentionally used the press as human shields. It didn't work. This is war.

It used to be the Pentagon made judgements, and reporters reported the facts. How times change!

So how many snipers did they kill?

Would journalists have embedded themselves in Hitler's bunker in 1945?

Actually, one did. His name was Joseph Goebbels.

I keep hearing the word. "Common Sense" used by Journalist regarding Coalition targeting of certain buildings. Like the coalition forces are supposed to have common sense and know that there are journalist in these buildings.

Ok well I'm pretty much convinced that in the case of the journalists in Baghdad (Not Embedded:

A. The journalist themselves don't have commons sense.

B. Are fame whores who will let them be used as puppets for propaganda.

c. Are naive enough to think that Saddams Regime wouldn't use them as human shield and control their movements and do things like place snipers behind their back without their knowledge.

Now if they don't fall into these 3 categories they they are being held hostage and forced to give reports that are false.. I'd say having a Ministry of Information Minder looking over your shoulder constitues being under duress.. So I propose Operation Paperboy Rescue in order to rescue the journalist from their situation.. This is voluntary of course .. because no one twisted the Journalists arms to go there.. althought it's unclear if they are being forced to stay..

Just saw Christian Amapooper saying that reporter's digs should be off limits to return fire. Says power plants supplying electricty to reporter's digs should be off limits to bombing so as not to disrupt their beverage service.

There wasn't that much room in Hitler's bunker. I don't think there would have been room for many journalists.

And the people in the bunker (except for the Goebbelses' children) weren't compelled to die. Many people got out alive. Haven't you seen people like Hitler's secretaries and valet interviewed on shows like "The World at War"?

I haven't looked. Did Goebbels continue to make entries in his diary to the end?

I saw Christiane Amanpour on CNN this afternoon - I watched with my mouth open as she went nuts on Wolf Blitzer, claiming their needed to be an international commission to investigate how the tank hit the Palestine Hotel!

She said that this "attack" goes to the heart of what the US military is claiming about protecting civilians.

She is an absolute nitwit - and the fact that they let her get away with her ranting shows just how shallow CNN is in its bias (of course, who didn't know that....)

They should just walk right over to the palace in coalition control and start doing reports from there. On the Baathist side you're under control of the government minders, at least they could roam a little bit on the coalition side.

Gosh, I don't know when he stopped. In Scherer's Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich, there's a lot of very specific detail about the last days in the bunker. Some of them came from some attaches. Clearly Goebbel's diary had to stop somewhere. I don't know if Goebbels left a last entry reading "finished poisoning the kids, have loaded the gun, saying ahhh..".

"So how many snipers did they kill?"

Probably not enough, yet... but we may not be done.
