As U.S. forces continue the battle of Baghdad, support for the war in Iraq continues to rise.
The latest Washington Post-ABC News Poll shows that 77 percent of Americans say they support the decision to go to war, a figure that has increased as news of the war turned positive. Just 16 percent say they oppose having gone to war.

Opposition rises above one-third among only two groups: African Americans and liberal Democrats. On CNN yesterday Bill Schneider said that their polls show 80 percent of Democrats favor the war, versus 95 percent of Republicans.
I had read that African-American figure before and it really puzzles me. I was under the impression that most blacks usually support the military.

The left has so demonized the Republican Party in the minds of African Americans that most of them would vote against Lincoln today. It doesn't help that they accept as fact the liberal nonsense about wars "exploiting" minorities.

CNN.com has posted pictures of every soldier who has died over in Iraq. Quick research shows that less than 13% of fatalities in Iraq were to black soldiers (the make up 22%) of the force. Further research shows even that number is skewed to the left, because cnn is including soldiers who died in car accidents and helicopter crashes as "casualties." I mourn the loss os every singel US soldier, but word needs to get out that black soldiers are a lot less likely to die in combat than white ones.

Shock and awe, may not be the best tool for encouraging donations. That picture should be reserved to use as a threat against those who have not yet contributed, when the fund raiser is winding down and the goal is not quite met.

Further review of the CNN list: CNN counts 122 "causualties." This is bordering on propaganda, because among their casualties was a young man who got sick in Kwuait, was evacuated to Germany. And later died. He never entered Iraq. But I digresss:
Of the blacks who were casualties, most tended to be victims of car accidents or helicopter crashes. Four were maintneance clerks who were ambushed at Nasiriya. There are some names with no pictures that have a good chance of being black men (Cpl. Bernard G. Gooden of Mount Vernon NY for instance), but of the men and women listed, as far as I can tell, the only African American who was actually supposed to be at a firefight and subsequently died, was Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Michael Van Johnson. God bless him, but he died in a firefight helping others, not fighting.
Blacks are less likely to be on the front lines in this war. They are much, much less likely to be killed. And to suggest otherwise is dishonest race-baiting.

Since 1994 when the Republicans took Congress and southerners emerged as leaders in both House and Senate, paranoia has taken hold in the black community. Prepare for another twenty years of the same.

Actually, in South Florida (where I lived for a while) "liberal Palm Beach/Broward Democrat" was a code word for "Jews." Nevertheless, I tend to find many of my parents Jewish Democratic neighbors down there to be supportive although they still "wish the UN were more involved." Sad, Sad, Sad...

These are mostly the older (over 50) Jews. Survey the younger Jews of that area (or any area) and you will find a much more even split of liberal v. conservative. Though I suspect the gender gap may be a bit greater within the Jewish community than the population as a whole.
