These pictures appear to be dated 1999...but still, it took a licking and kept on ticking. And the pilot, you say, was a woman?

Tough plane. Went to a Blue Angels airshow last year and for me, the A10 was the highlight of my day as far as displays of practical prowess. Unreal how quiet that thing is until it's right on top of you. Climbout awesome. Evasive maneuvering awesome.

Any ex-pilots out there?? I have been is several aircraft, but never fired upon. What does it feel like when hit by fire like this? Could you say it feels like someone hitting the underside of the aircraft with a hammer...the weight of a 22 ounce framing hammer?

The intruder is still used by the navy - mostly for refueling missions!

Relatively minor damage compared to these:

Navy A-6E hit by AAA during Desert Storm

Marine F/A-18 hit by SAM during Desert Storm
