[history]
SOUTH OF BAGHDAD — In a valley sculpted by man, between the palms and roses, lies a vast marble and steel city known as Al-Tuwaitha.
In the suburbs about 18 miles south of the capital's suburbs, this city comprises nearly 100 buildings — workshops, laboratories, cooling towers, nuclear reactors, libraries and barracks — that belong to the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission.

First, I hope the Marines were issued the M99A2 Lead-Lined jockstrap before entering this place. Sheesh!
Second, tell me again why Iraq, with #2 oil reserves on the planet, needs a nuclear reactor?

If this true, we should round up all of those who have backed the regime of Soddomite from DC (Rats in Congress to the West Coast, Michael Moore and the violent protestors).
Then, we can send them to this hell on earth to decontaminate the area. Scott Ritter, Michael Moore, the Follywood maggots, the Da$$hole and Kerry should be the first on this one way trip!

I hope those guys are properly protected. That sounds like very nasty levels of radiation in there.
The question will be, "How close was Saddam to a nuke?" If the answer is, "A few months," then we should go slap Chirac and the "more inspections" loonies silly.

"On a mantle, folded under documents, a Christmas card never sent. On the front is a dove, its wings the ellipses of the atom, tinged in orange, yellow and green. Under it, a tiger, facing backward, its body a swirl of Arabic letters. Inside the card: "Rights of Third World Peoples To Alternate Energy Sources For the Future Development of Their Environment and Culture."
The next page: "Let Us Hope This New Year Will Be a Year of Peace and Justice and With All Good Wishes for Christmas and the New Year." Signed, Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission. Baghdad.
"
Can someone explain all the references to Christmas. These people don't celebrate Christmas. Thoughts?

They may have purposely let a reactor failure, making the site difficult to impossible to inspect.

So far, Marine nuclear and intelligence experts have discovered 14 buildings that betray high levels of radiation. Some of the readings show nuclear residue too deadly for human occupation. Ignorance is Blix.

Woa... nice catch there guys.

It could be reported that every evil, twisted, murderous, torturing, mass destructing, germ weaponized, nerve gas spraying device is discovered in Iraq and liberals won't care.
None of those things can match the evil that is George Bush.

Said Mohammed El Baradei, "Look, we long have been aware of the high levels of radiation emanating from this site, but the Iraqi government assured us this is nothing more than the result of placing an aluminum foil packaged Hungry Man Salisbury Steak dinner into a microwave. The Iraqis showed us the charred remains of the dinner, so we are satisfied this issue is closed."

Yahoo is preventing people from looking at a set of photos from February 2003.

U.N. weapons inspectors, left, and members of the Iraqi National Monitoring Directorate, investigate storage facilities at Al-Tuwaitha, the main site
(Associated Press photographs)
Use the link above or use Google to Web search on "Al-Tuwaitha 2003" and you will see a slew of UN inspector pics with captions like this. When you use Google, you have to look at the "cached" copy because they are supressing the copy normally accessible through the links. I put a direct link to the cached page above.

So the Marine's discovery makes the former atomic inspector wonder if the Iraqis went to the colossal expense of pumping enough water to build the underground city because no reasonable inspector would think anything might be built underground there.
The one thing the Iraqis are known to be good at is graduating a lot of good civil engineers and building stuff(of course, much of that wasted building palaces and such.) Not implausible they pulled it off themselves.

Why wouldnt this be on the national wires yet? Nothing on an AP search, or Drudge, etc... Got me. Every drum of pesticide makes national news. It could be they haven't spotted this story yet. The writer, Carl Prine, is with the Trib, not a news service. He is embedded with the Marines. Maybe the mainstream doesn't want to pick up a story from the Trib --- ground zero of the VRWC. ;~))

Never forget that "laser isotope seperation" is a technique using a laser to purify elements including nuclear ones. Iraq was being allowed to develop this right under everyone's (including Blix) nose.
