LANDSTUHL, Germany (AP) Rescued U.S. POW Jessica Lynch is steadily improving and spending less time in bed since she was moved out of intensive care at a military hospital, a spokesman said Thursday.

Lynch, a 19-year-old Army private first class from Palestine, W. Va., was moved to a regular ward at Germany's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center on Wednesday.

Lynch's relatives planned to donate blood for other patients at the hospital later Thursday, he added.

Awwww, that's so smurfy. But what does that have to do with anything?

She might not know or remember if she was shot...or want to remember.

Are the doctors even allowed to ask her about the ambush and her captivity? Has she been debriefed yet?

Don't blame the doctors for not knowing.

It shows they are conservatives with compassion, unlike liberals.

Why not find out by asking her?

A doctor said she doesn't remember a whole lot. The Hollywood screen writers will get to write the story.

Except that conservatives don't wear it on their sleeves like liberals do, to boost their smurf standing.

Do you remember how you felt after 9/11? I imagine the Lynch's feel a lot like that now. Helpless. They are probably donating blood because it's something that they can do. The family is very patriotic and support our troops 100%.

Smurfy? I take it that you're not a blood donor. The story's about Lynch and her parents. Apparently there's a need for blood at that hospital, so the family's going to donate. Good for them. As a regular donor, I ask you to give that gift to others.

Maybe the reporter asked the family what they were doing while at the hospital and they said they were going to spend time with her, grab some food in the cafeteria, and then donate some blood later on. They didn't hold a press conference to announce it, a reporter just reported it. Don't see how they are "wearing it on their sleeves".

If you can't learn that someone is doing something nice without attributing that to some sort of cynical motive, perhaps that reveals more about yourself than those you comment on.

It's fine that they are planning to give blood. What's not right with me is putting this in the news. Would they ever write at the end of a news article that they are planning to donate money to a church?

Uh, it wasn't them that put it in the news...it was whatever journalist wrote it. Give these nice folks a break. Somebody probably asked them what their plans were for the day, and they explained.

Nothing at all wrong with donating blood. When I donate, I wear a little tag that says that I donated that day. More than once, it has caused people to ask me about donating blood. A couple have donated after talking to me, since I'm a big booster for blood donations.

Bottom line here is that it's none of your darned business what the Lynches do or say. If they want to say they're donating blood, who the heck are you to call 'em smurfs?

Grow up.

journalist wrote it

I'm complaining about the news article, how it was written by the journalist, not what the Lynch's are doing Thursday afternoon.

The Smurfs lived in a commune, much like how many journalists wish the world would be. I'm trying to point out the hard left twist at the end of this article. It doesn't belong there.

Horse-puckey. I'm proud of the Lynches for donating blood to help the soldiers in that hospital. The journalist mentioned it in the story. I'll bet a lot of people saw that and said, "Yeah! Good for them."

You just had to stick your little interpretation in there, didn't you. It's almost as if you think that donating blood is a "liberal" thing to do. Well, dude, it's not. It's a decent thing to do. It's a think that people of all types do.

Our soldiers depend on it. Victims of accidents depend on it. Conservatives and liberals alike depend on donated blood. For you to belittle either the Lynches for doing it or the journalist for pointing out that the Lynches were not just thinking about their own daughter but also the other soldiers in the hospital is just small of you.

As I said, grow up. Even better, drive down to your local blood bank and donate a pint. Who knows, you could save a life. Or, forget about it. There are plenty of good folks, conservatives, liberals, and people who could care less about politics donating. It'd be nice if you did, but it's not critical.

It's nice the Lynches took the time to donate their blood. Lots of injured soldiers there at that hospital.

Find another game to play, OK?

"The Smurfs lived in a commune, "

Oh yeah, one more thing: The Smurfs are _cartoon_ characters, not real people. The Lynches are not Smurfs. Smurfs don't exist.

You know, there are other things on television than cartoons. I suggest you watch some of them.

I agree with you! I didn't mean to press your blood donation button. My pressed button is that a journalist would never end an article with "The parents plan to donate to the Republican Party", or "they plan to donate to the Church". If the news article had something remotely to do with blood donation, was about low blood supplies or a blood drive going on, ok. Maybe if the journalist said Jessica needed a lot of blood transfusions then it would have fit.
