Fascinating is right, and translation errors are probable --Here is what I think is a translation error...
As we said a few months before the war, eliminating the Iraqi regime will not change history, will not defeat the people's will, and will give neither a character reference nor protection to the imperialist invaders." (3)

"The stabbing of September 11 was not fatal to America, but it was fatal to Saddam Hussein and his regime. He did not understand that his only option was to arrange his surrender or his exile. He acted stubbornly and arrogantly. This is the end of a man, the end of a regime, the end of a phase." (8) Thanks for posting this.

Clearly, the "Arab street" is in disarray. So much for the myth of solidarity with the Ba'athist doctrine.

"The editor of the PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadeeda, Hafez al-Barghouti, criticized the lack of effective Iraqi defense plans, and bemoaned the fact that basic military principles of warfare in populated areas were not applied"
I think they could have defended themseleves better. But the entire leadership was as delusional as the Information Minister. They really thought it wasnt going to happen, that the UN would protect them. And when it did, they had no time to erect significant defenses, save for a few oil burning ditches. They were also deluded into thinking it would be a cakewalk when we did attack.

The scenes of hysterical outpourings of joy intentionally taken by TV cameras after the Iraqi regime collapsed were attended by 100 or 200 peopleReminds me of what Michael Moore said about the boos at the Oscars.

Finally, I want to ask, what do the Arab leaders feel, those who abandoned Iraq, and conspired with the invaders, what do they feel when they see the statues of their colleague Saddam Hussein fall one after another, in Basra, Baghdad, and Nasiriyya? Have they given it a lot of thought, and have they learned any lessons? In one month, the American military can destroy a dictator. Trust me, they got the message!

Interesting that Tehran allows a relatively free press, while Syria and Jordan obviosuly do not. Should make it obvious where attention needs to be turned next - towards the west of Iraq, not east.

That's what you get for believing your own propaganda.
It is also wise to remember than nobody could tell Saddam the truth. They told him what they thought he wanted to hear, since anybody who told him something he didn't like would die horribly. Yet accurate data is needed to plan an effective military resistance.
Tyranny is often self-defeating.

I still think that there are real possibilities for revolution in Iran.

Muhammed is a great deceiver, and the Islamic Allah is Satan, and their only joy is in getting gullible, ignorant people to throw themselves on the sword of the One True God of Abraham.
Bring 'em on. Let America educate them in the error of their ways. Whether we consciously acknowledge it or not, this war is as much about Faith as it is about Liberty.
These shreiking Imams and their followers believed that Allah would deliver them... and he did... right into the sights of our guns.

.....the Americans are paving a long, broad path for the death of tens of thousands, maybe even more, of their people....... They still don't understand that, if they do this, they will make us even angrier, and will bring greater fire and destruction down on their heads. They still have this quaint idea that we will fold if hurt.

Allah must be disgusted with a people who use children of their own land as human shields, and send their OWN children out with bombs strapped on to kill themselves. What kind of sickness do these people have?

I picked up on that too. Iran will fall on its own, leave those people be. Jordan, on the other hand has a face of a Westernized King. Yet tons of the Fadayeen are Jordanian. The loudest protests come from there, and lots of the weapons cache are Jordanian. Yes, Syria AND Jordan need to be looked at not only by the State Dept, but the Dept of Defense.

Fact of the matter is, Muammar Khadafy's agents went around bombing American GIs in West German discos, like the
"La Belle". Reagan, like Bush, who was not a Clinton or a Carter, immediately shoved American cruise missiles and other weapons from our arsenal up the ass of his regime in Tripoli, taking out Hana (his prized daughter). Sad for her, but it was the only thing he understood unfortunately. Oh he wept and wept and wept a lot there in 1987 over that.
But he knocked off the terrorism and hasn't cause us a problem since.
This is the way to deal with radical extremist Arabs. They are full of talk but they fold when you bring down your power on their sorry heads.
