The National Organization for Women, properly so, has a history of being very outspoken over the issue of rape. Rape is horrific and deserves very, very long prison sentences.
It seems, however, that there are a few instances in which NOW must have had duct tape over its collective mouth regarding rape. The first was the rape of Juanita Broaddrick by Bill Clinton. Currently, it is the use of rape as policy by the former Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein.
NOW's website contains a search engine. I put in "Iraq" and came up with 63 entries. I did a keyword search for "rape" on every one of them and on some to which the article referred. Much to my surprise (just kidding) there was ONLY ONE REFERENCE to the use of rape as a political weapon by the former regime of Hussein. Only one. That one statement was curious, albeit typical of NOW positions. Hypocrisy is the word that immediately comes to mind.
From the NOW statement regarding war on Iraq, Jan. 15, 2003: National Council of Women's Organizations Statement on the War with Iraq January 15, 2003: "Women in conflict zones always bear heavy personal costs of wars that target them for rape or torture, ruin their country's physical and social infrastructure, destabilize their economies, destroy their homes, and kill and maim their children and families."
Does NOW really believe that our soldiers are going to use rape as a policy of war as Muslim countries have done?
With all the evidence of the oppression and rape of women in Iraq, NOW would typically be screaming that something must be done. Unfortunately, George W. Bush is president. They can never give him credit for anything. He might get re-elected.
From a March 7, 2003 Open Letter from NOW to President Bush: "For Iraqi women, the war carries the danger that their nation will degenerate into an even more militarized or extremist Iraq that dramatically could restrict womens rights."
NOW is in serious denial. War in Iraq has freed the Iraqi women from such violence as state policy.
From NOW, July 8, 2002, "Pakistani Tribe Orders Gang-Rape": "A Pakistani tribal council recently ordered the gang rape of an 18-year-old girl as a punishment to her family after her younger brother was seen walking with a girl from a higher class. The rape occurred June 22 in the southern Punjab province, the Associated Press reported."
Regarding the Pakistani rape: "That this was allowed to happen is astonishing and revolting," said NOW President Kim Gandy. "We demand that all those involved be brought to justice."

Ummmm, excuse me, NOW gang, who is going to do anything about that rape? Who is going to do anything to stop the abuse, rape, and torture of women in Muslim countries? Barbra Streisand? Ed Assner? Mike Farrell? Janeane Garofolo. You?
No, dears, the only way such rape and tortune is going to stop is through action by the United States mililtary. You didn't care about Clinton's rape(s) because it wouldn't advance your agenda. You can't give credit to our president for the stopping of Iraqi rapes because it wouldn't advance your agenda.
In the 63 articles to which I've made reference, there was another about rape in Muslim countries, but it did not mention Iraq.
From NOW, "Armies at War Use Rape as a Weapon." "In a culture that prizes female virginity and fidelity, Muslim women face divorce and abandonment if they are raped. The shame associated with such an attack is so great that many women declare they would rather die than live after a rape. Despite the unconfirmed reports of rape camps in the town of Pec and at an army camp near Djakovica, not a single woman said in interviews that she was raped by a Serbian soldier. But reports of others being raped are numerous. This poses a serious problem for human rights organizations as they attempt to collect the information needed to convict Slobodan Milosevic of war crimes under the rules set up by the international war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague."
Who was president when the United States bombed Milosevic? It, of course, was a non-Republican. Had it been a Republican, they would have been marching in the streets.
NOW cows, you are the big losers in the success of removing the rapists and torturers from Iraq. You'd better put some ice on that.
FYI...NOWs Membership and Budget Are Grossly Overinflated

Women are allowed to play golf there. It is disgusting to think that some men would actually want to have a club for men. I think I am correct that there are about 11,000 golf courses in the United States. Why don't the lesbians build their own golf course just for lesbians. The Links at Dykeville has a nice ring to it.
