Suggested questions for GOP survey
Townhall.com ^ | Tuesday, April 15, 2003 | Phyllis Schlafly

Posted on 04/14/2003 11:21:52 PM PDT by JohnHuang2

The National Republican Congressional Committee has mailed a survey to a selected list of grass-roots Republicans seeking opinions on "issues of greatest concern" so that the party can be strengthened "by getting more Americans involved."

Of course, it is really a fund-raiser (send your "most generous contribution"), but it is artfully designed to look like authentic market research using catchphrases such as "registered survey number," "classified document" and "data entry control number for office use only."

Whoever produced the survey must have the same worldview as Inside-the-Beltway policy wonks whose sensitivity to public opinion is bounded by the Washington Post in the morning and Dan Rather in the evening. They are clueless about what grass-roots Americans think.

Out of 54 detailed questions sorted into 13 different issues, there is only one about border security and immigration. That lone question appears at the bottom of the page titled Foreign Affairs. There is a section on homeland security, but it contains no mention of border security or immigration.

I'm going to help the Republican Congressional Committee by providing a list of 20 questions for which the answers would be helpful to party leaders.

1. Do you favor President George W. Bush's plan to give amnesty to undocumented aliens, putting people who violate our laws in line ahead of those who lawfully apply for entry?

2. Do you favor the repeal of Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's Diversity Visa Lottery, which admits 50,000 aliens per year, mostly from non-Western countries, including countries that sponsor terrorism?

3. Should the U.S. State Department stop issuing visas in countries that sponsor terrorism?

4. Do you favor closing our borders to undocumented aliens, illegal drugs and contagious diseases by whatever means necessary, including electronic fences and National Guard troops?

5. Do you favor requiring visual inspection of the contents of at least 50 percent of trucks entering the United States from Mexico and Canada, instead of the current 1 percent to 2 percent?

6. Do you favor prohibiting the State Department from negotiating a plan with Mexico to give Social Security benefits to undocumented aliens?

7. Do you favor repealing the federal requirement that hospitals must give free medical care, including scarce organ transplants, to undocumented aliens, an unfunded mandate that is bankrupting many hospitals and increasing the price of medical care to U.S. citizens?

8. Do you favor cutting off federal funding to state universities that give lower in-state tuition to undocumented aliens in violation of current federal law, or that refuse to cooperate with the foreign student tracking system?

9. Will you vote to revoke the citizenship of naturalized citizens who betray their oath of U.S. citizenship by claiming dual citizenship with their native country?

10. Do you favor stopping the issuance of driver's licenses to undocumented aliens since many of the 9/11 hijackers boarded the fatal planes by showing their driver's licenses?

11. Do you favor penalties for local public officials who refuse to cooperate with immigration officials in identifying undocumented aliens?

12. Do you favor prohibiting government agencies from accepting foreign-issued identity cards, such as Mexico's matricula consular, as acceptable identification?

13. Do you favor strict health screening of foreigners entering the United States in order to stop the extraordinary rise in cases of tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis B, intestinal parasites, Chagas' disease, West Nile virus and SARS?

14. Do you favor stopping the racket of smuggling pregnant aliens into the United States so they can give birth to their babies in the United States, thereby making their children immediately eligible for citizenship and welfare?

15. Do you favor a timeout on immigration and visas until the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has a functioning computer system to track aliens, not U.S. citizens, through smart identification cards?

16. Do you favor rescinding Bill Clinton's Executive Order 13166 requiring anyone who receives federal funds, such as doctors and hospitals, to provide their services in foreign languages?

17. Do you favor abolishing federal requirements to provide foreign-language ballots, since the ability to speak, read and write basic English is a requirement to become a naturalized U.S. citizen and only citizens are eligible to vote?

18. Do you favor a general policy of drawing a bright line of difference between U.S. citizens and aliens so that law-abiding U.S. citizens are not treated like potential terrorists or hijackers?

19. Do you favor a Republican Party policy of rejecting political contributions from individuals and corporations that hire undocumented aliens?

20. Is the reason why questions about border security and immigration were omitted from the Republican survey because our leaders don't want to know the answers?

Is it really that the politicians want to destroy nationalism? Does PRes. Bush really want a western hemisphere type union? Do they want a society of haves and have not and nothing in the middle?

Yes.

Why are American middle class people cutting their own throats, and more importantly, that of their children by supporting this lunacy?

Because they really have no say. Who cares who we vote for or what the laws are? Seen the government upholding the immigration laws? They know they don't have to, because what recourse do we have? Vote them out? How? Most elections are negotiated deals anyway (most, not all). The interests of the biggest gorilla in town come first, not the interests of the peons ("us").

I think it's just the progression (or devolution?) of any society. The march back to feudalism always occurs, because in any competitive game, the early winners will always try to tilt the game in their favor. The United States has only been around a couple hundred years; a few major winners have emerged, and they work tirelessly to tilt things their direction. Occasionally an upstart figures out how to horn in; he is ultimately co-opted - or found to be one of the gang in the first place - or simply crushed by co-ordinated tactics.

In short, I think the existence of a large middle class was a short lived phenomenon, the result of a moment in history when the people actually did have some control. The war now is to push us back to survival level, where we will be happy for any crumbs. If we aren't, we're expendable. And things like armed resistance a la 1776 is simply unthinkable now, as the level of force that they control is exponentially higher than anything we might have (which is why I laugh at the gun confiscation thing. Why bother? What could peasants with pitchforks do against depleted uranium bullets? Ask the Iraqi "militias").

I know that's a gloomy opinion, but it seems to me that if you run things out to their logical result, that's where you get.

"we educate undocumented immigrants all the way through high school so why not college”

That's hilarious! The reason we educate them (and it is we, not the politicians -- it's our money) is due to ONE Supreme Court decision: Plyler v. Doe. In other words, we are COMPELLED to, AGAINST our will!

You really got to hand it to Peter Schey and the MALDEF terroristas - they knew that if they got primary ed from the courts, they could push through secondary education by haranguing. One way or the other, chisel the money out of the gringos. And the Supreme Court says...you have no right to decide where your money goes! We will tell you! Judicial Tyranny. At least with the state legislators, you now have an issue to beat them up with.

Every time I get one of these I fill it out and then in the area where they ask for money I write, "Not one penny until you close the borders."

These are supposedly smart men and women with college educations running the GOP, but only lay people can see the obvious?

This interesting paradox happens when a politician becomes "compromised" and quickly finds out which side of their bread is buttered. Most of our politicos are puppets for special interests. Their only real skill is making it look like they are working for their constituants when they aren't.

I see you and I are on the same wavelength here. Those are my thoughts. I was accused of 'class warfare' when I suggested such a thing.

You know the one thing about it, if it comes in my lifetime, I will be ahead of the new 'intellectuals' that have, in their muddled thinking, helped to bring this about. We will both be in the same boat - but I know how to be poor - haven't forgotten a bit of it. I sure wanted better for my children and grandchildren, though.

The Mexican "professionals" are here. In California (of course) we just got a new law! Ready for this one? Mexican doctors can now practice in "rural" areas of California without taking the boards. They simply walk in and set up shop. They get to refer patients to hospitals, which means they can get work in those hospitals as well.

This is sick.. Who "passed" the law? Did the Calif. State Boards of Medical Examiners do this? Or is it a NAFTA thing? IF NAFTA, how can they interfere with State run board that is in place for "the protection of the public?" If it's because it's Fed, then that alone should be a crime.

Could I scream discrimination if I (being white) went to UCLA Medical school, graduated, wanted to practice in a "rural" community, but didn't take my boards?

This crap has gone way far enough. We've lost Kalifornia to the illegals, and the socialist-damocrats fueled the loss over the last 20-30+ years. The rest of the southwest is next. This is blatant invasion, what's it going to take before we take back our country? Political "diplomacy" and playing "nice nice" just doesn't seem to cut it anymore.

Re your post #14. I think your post was so well documented that ANYONE in their right mind could see that we are heading for a huge catastrophe with the illegal alien problems.

You are correct when you state that they ignore the rules we are made to follow.

All our taxes, are skyrocketing due to the ones who DON'T PAY. Mr. Bush's pandering to them will continue. 245(i) will be passed through eventually. Chris Simcox of the Arizona newspaper, Tumbleweed, was told to cease and desist in trying to monitor the border with incoming illegals, by the federal government. We are leaving the first world to become a third world country, at least here in the state of California.

As an American, I feel that we are considered "second class citizens" when compared to the illegals.

Their only real skill is making it look like they are working for their constituants when they aren't.

And they've gotten real good at it too. But eventually the GOP will have to start listening to its constituents on this issue or they're outta there. Their "outreach" to illegal aliens in order to widen the tent is turning off more people than they realize. These same type policies is what's causing so many to flee the democratic party.

If a third party truly rises up in the country, it will be because of this one issue and all the issues surrounding it... ie housing, education, crime, and on and on.

Associated Press December 24, 2002 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WASHINGTON -- President Bush thinks gifts should never, ever be opened before Christmas morning. A fondly recalled practice from first lady Laura Bush's childhood dictates tamales and enchiladas for the Christmas Eve menu.

Included in the holiday decorations brought with them to Washington are two creches, one a Mexican nativity scene.

Perhaps the answer is in these clues. I never have been able to find out what part of her childhood has ties to Mexico. Perhaps someone out there knows and can enlighten me.

Clearly, though, the Bushes have some deep tie to Mexico. Maybe it was that she had a mexican maid growing up. I would like to know.

To the state board's credit, they objected vehemently. This is merely more Reconquista crap pushed by Marco Firebaugh, Manny Diaz, Richard Polanco and the rest of the criminal gang that makes up the "Latino Caucus" in the California state legislature. And Davis goes along with it when it's convenient.

Be interesting to see what Davis does now that polls show Bustamante more popular than him. He might try to get back the white/Anglo and overpopulation/no-growth Dems by... gasp...appealing 187 to the Supreme Court. He could say, "we just can't afford to subsidize everyone now". If a recall IS approved, that would be a long shot tactic he could revert to.

Naaahh. He's too twisted to do something smart like that. It's his own corruption that got him into this mess; he'll never get it. He'll go down trying to bribe someone. He's beyond help.

Well, I have an idea - suppose next election we try to vote an illegal, maybe a Mexican citizen, living in Mexico, into a national office. Then we will see if our politicians think laws are to be broken. I'll bet you would see weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth in Washington if that happened.

We could always use the reason that we can't find a qualified American politician, and bring him/her in under the H1B program----

Whew, that makes perfect sense. I don't know of one physician that would think that this is a good idea.

This is merely more Reconquista crap pushed by Marco Firebaugh, Manny Diaz, Richard Polanco and the rest of the criminal gang that makes up the "Latino Caucus" in the California state legislature.

Sadly, like the rest of Kalifornia, it has been taken over by the criminal gangs, aka "The Latino Caucus." Latinos out number every ethnicity in Kalifornia now, I don't see a chance that the immigration issue will ever be remedied.

And Davis goes along with it when it's convenient.

He is such a putz. I can't believe that he still ran and won against the republican (albeit weak) challenger, when his poll numbers were still in the tank, even after the energy fiasco awhile back. He's an bribing idiot, can't swim his way out of a barrel, and I agree with you. He's too stupid to figure it out.

I don't know what the tie between Mexico and the Bushes is. It isn't too unusual for Texas to adopt a lot of the Mexican culture - until recently I really enjoyed it -

It is said that Fox and his elite group want to rid Mexico of the dark skinned Spanish/Indians and leave the riches of Mexico to the white-skinned people. One site I read said that Fox actually did not have enough MExican blood to qualify for affirmative action in the US. This may be part of it and President Bush wants to break down our sovereignty and create the union that 'has no borders'. What better way to do it, then flood one country with people who have no allegiance to it - who are breaking the back and finances of the ones who do - make them citizens and allow them to vote for your ideas. The illegals who come here don't care if they live in America or some huge union. It doesn't matter to them.

Sadly, you are right. It is now political suicide for any politician to even express an opinion that our borders should be protected, or that illegals should not get everything they want.

Those of you who are praying men and women, pray and pray hard. Only God can save this country now.

Their "outreach" to illegal aliens in order to widen the tent is turning off more people than they realize. These same type policies is what's causing so many to flee the democratic party.

The GOP is without question the dumber of the two parties, at least on a strategic level...though the democrats will get theirs too at a later date.

I live in a town 50 miles outside of Chicago that very much fits the description of Middle Class America. Nice neighborhoods, good schools, little to no crime. But the situation out here has rapidly changed for the worse in just the last 2 years. These days our town and the surrounding areas are being inundated with illegal aliens. They started out by grouping up in the older sections of town and have spread out all over the place.

There is not a time I go shopping when some illegal with 3-4 kids in tow doesn't whip out food stamps at the counter and ties up that line for minutes on end. Of course they can't speak English so if there is any problem with their food stamps they can shut down a line for a half-hour as the store personnel try to work out the problem. Oh and you won’t see any sense of shame on the faces of these folks. LOL. It's like "we are here, and there is nothing you can do about it...so get used to it."

What's interesting though is that the Illegals I see every day usually have nice clothes, late model cars and certainly don't look like they need any kind of assistance. They obviously know how to game OUR system to the max.

If the GOP higher-ups believe that this growing contingent of illegal aliens are going to vote (presumably when they are citizens) for anything other than ever-greater socialism they are off their rocker. It's so blatantly obvious that most illegal aliens identify with socialism that it would be astonishing if the GOP elite didn’t know this as well. Really, what we have today is outright tyranny at the top levels of our government.
