A Reminder for Weekend Holiday Viewing

04-18-03-  As we head into the holiday weekend, we wanted to send out a reminder that Ms. Sarandon's tele-film, Ice Bound is being shown on CBS this weekend, Sunday, at 9:00 p.m.

It appears that even the movie's subject Dr. Nielsen, isn't happy with the end result:  Sarandon's portrayal slammed by real-life doctor
'This isn't me,' Dr. Jerri Nielsen says of her character in TV movie

As part of our continuing effort to be pro-active in reminding those in Hollywood of who "signs" their paychecks, we'd like to recommend alternatives to watching Ice Bound.

It's a wonderful time to be with family and remember what's important.  May we suggest renting an holiday movie, here are some oldies but goodies:

The Bible/1966

The Robe/1953

The Ten Commandments/1956

The Greatest Story Ever Told/1965

Ben-Hur/1959

King of Kings/1961

Jesus of Nazareth/ (A 3-tape set)

Easter Parade, Fred Astaire, Judy Garland-1948

For Children:

The Easter Story Keepers

(From the USA Network web page):

Helen of Troy is the incredible story of an epic war fought to win the love of the most beautiful woman in the world.

Helen's stunning beauty was a curse from which no one could escape. It forced her father, the king of Sparta, to keep Helen as a prisoner in her own home out of fear that the desire of other men to possess Helen's godlike beauty would destroy his kingdom. Only after arranging her marriage to his successor to the throne did he allow Helen to be seen in public, but Helen's husband and his allies quickly realized that Helen's beauty could indeed cause a devastating war, and they vowed that no one would ever sleep with her.

However, a young Trojan warrior named Paris knew nothing of the vow, and when he first saw Helen, he knew only that they were destined to be together. The pair fell in love the moment they meet, and together they fled Sparta for the city of Troy, risking everything to be together.

But the Spartan king was unwilling to let his bride go without a fight, and so began one of ancient civilization's greatest wars. Helen became "the face that launched a thousand ships," as the Spartans sailed an army across the Aegean to mount an attack (on) the Trojan city.

A savage war raged around the formidable walls of Troy for almost ten years, resulting in the deaths of countless soldiers and nearly causing the collapse of both civilizations. It took history's most infamous deception - the Trojan Horse - to finally bring the brutal conflict to an end.

Watch this page for a detailed synopsis of each night of this epic miniseries immediately after each part premieres!

PART 1 PREMIERES SUNDAY, APRIL 20, 8PM/7C
PART 2 PREMIERES MONDAY, APRIL 21, 8PM/7C

My favorite for this time of the year is a 50s/60s(?) movie called "The Story of Ruth." I do enjoy it very much.

Also, wouldn't it be helpful to insert the story of Paris too? About how the three 3 goddesses (Athena, Venus and ?) had a contest. Paris (a mortal) was selected as the judge. After being lobbied quite a bit, Paris selected Venus, the goddess of love as the winner. Then walks into history the story of Helen. Or maybe the story of Paris can be set another day?

'Ten Commandments' rules; hands-down Sunday night viewing choice. The one Biblical epic kids everywhere would watch and discuss the next day at school.

Besides the parting of the Red Sea, the pillar of fire, the plagues, the staff turning into a snake, the Exodus (with about 1,000,000 extras), the little Pharoah with the wacky ponytail, Anne Baxter saying "Moses Moses Moses", it has Edward G. Robinson going, "Where's your Messiah now, see? Myah!"

Or you can watch Sarandon on an ice floe for 2 hours. Right.

Thank you for the reminder. 9:00 pm ET/PT on Sunday, is that it? Noted on the calendar.

(Sarandon's stridency repels even me, and I'm opposed to the war. But she is a DAMN good actress.)

Hmmmm? Great idea. I love my 1959 original video of Ben Hur (it's one of my all time favorites). Besides, I would not watch Susan's movie anyway.
