SPORTSCASTER BOB COSTAS: "Horrible Mistake" To Nix 'Bull Durham' And Robbins
The O'Reilly Factor | 041803 | F16Fighter

Posted on 04/18/2003 6:02:08 PM PDT by F16Fighter

Bob Costas was whining like the girly-man he is about the Hall of Fame's decision to forego an invitation to leftist radicals Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon to appear in Cooperstown for a puzzling 15th anniversary celebration of the overrated movie 'Bull Durham.'

Not only have Robbins and Sarandon been anti-America political distractions, but were nattering nabobs of negativity regarding the Iraqi war.

Apparently, O'Reilly felt it was better to sit on the fence during the brief interview, while Costas, as usual, holds the belief that he is the High Priest of MLB Baseball, and for all of the rest of us to bow down to his God-like opinion.

A 15-year anniversary bash - for a movie? Please.

Let's see if it's remembered after 300 years. THEN have a celebration...

"Tim Robbins is not now, nor has he ever been, a MLB baseball player. That fact alone is enough to disqualify him from speaking at the Hall of Fame."

ALL people -- especially conservatives -- ought to wise up...

Tom Hanks shouldn't be considered an authority or honored by American Patriots, and D-Day and WWII enthusiasts by virtue of his Hollywood role on 'Saving Private Ryan' either, but he is.

Just for fun sometime, give this a try.

When Bob is blathering, mute the TV and turn on the closed-captioning and enjoy reading the inanity. Best when done during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics when the moron has a comment for everything.

Thank heaven the Cardinals had the sense not to hire him back after Jack Buck died. Bob wanted that job.

Ah, an over-paid, under-worked, over-rated, whining leftist who complains about getting up in the morning?

No, just living in the city where he got his start. I think he still lives here, although I'm not positive. he and his wife split up last year. She's from here and her family is here, so who knows.

Yep, that's Bob Costas -- leftist "baseball commentator" and liberal shill who has come out from behind the mike to help shield Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon from their deserved conservative backlash.

But can he commentate successfully on a game?

What was his opinion on that miserable All Star game?

My sympathies for having been bestowed the honor of having Costas infest your part of middle-America. Just maybe Costas' wife got tired of watching her husband masquerade as Katie Couric ;-)

I know what you mean about Costas' praddling commentary aimlessly droning on and on -- nevermind the Olympics -- listening to him during a baseball game is chore enough.

Thank you. We do try to look on the bright side that Joe Buck lives here too. He's not doing Cards games anymore either. Oh, well.

Depends on what you mean by "successful." IMO, Costas knows the game. However, if part of his job is to convey excitement and intrigue, he get a D+.

I can't say I recall the All-Star game you're alluding to...

Next you'll be saying he never worked for FedX? Say it isn't so.

If you can count on anything, it's that those in the sports media are little different from their hard-news counterparts: routinely left-leaning.

As to Bill-of-Rights Bob Costas, consider this: Newsies enjoy cred (often unjustly) as serious, thoughtful and well-read. The widespread image of the jockojourno tribe is not nearly as flattering (sometimes unjustly).

I would suggest that the Costasites of the sports media want to be taken seriously as thinkers, not just as walking encyclopaedias of athletic stats.

I take Costas and his ilk seriously as writers and commentators. A good sportswriter is a damn good writer, period. An articulate commentator like Costas is also gifted.

But outside athletics I wouldn't pay attention to many of their opinions. My hunch is their familiarity with the latest MLB labor agreement is going to be vastly greater than their conversance with the Constitution.

>>Again, where was Costas when John Rocker and Marge Schott were on the receiving end of this type of treatment?<<

"(And what about Jimmy the Greek)? Costas didn't defend their right to make stupid comments as far as I remember...but of course speech is free only for leftists!/sarcasm off"

Costas is a typical liberal with an agenda. They do nothing out of principle.
